4.5 rating based on 105 ratings

A semicolon tattoo signifies something that could have ended but didn’t, often referencing the wearer’s own life. It generally means that someone contemplated or attempted suicide but persevered. Semicolons are one of the few tattoo images with a specific meaning, and wearing a semicolon tattoo allows you to share something intimate about yourself with others.

Semicolon tattoos represent assurance and a promise of mutual support for those who have dealt with depression, suicide, and other mental illnesses. They have evolved from an editor’s punctuation mark to a mental health awareness symbol and are popular and meaningful tattoo designs. Semicolon tattoos are used to mark lesions useful for later endoscopic resection, subsequent surgical resection, and easy endoscopic follow-up.

The semicolon tattoo represents hope, resilience, and strength in the face of mental health struggles. Laziness is often a symptom of something more significant, like depression or anxiety, and should not be judged harshly. Colon tattooing is a widely accepted technique to mark lesions for future identification surgery or repeat colonoscopy, but no consensus exists on how to use it effectively.

In conclusion, semicolon tattoos symbolize hope, resilience, and strength in the face of mental health struggles. They serve as a conversation starter, allowing people to discuss their experiences and raise awareness about mental health issues.

What Does The 7 And 2 Tattoo Mean In Nobody?

In the movie Nobody (2021), Hutch Mansell, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, has a tattoo of the Seven of Spades and the Two of Diamonds on his wrist. This tattoo carries significant meaning as it symbolizes a bad hand in Texas Hold 'Em poker—the worst possible starting hand one can be dealt since the 7-2 combination can't form a straight and is off-suit. The tattoo is emblematic of Hutch's difficult life experiences, reflecting the notion that he has been dealt a poor hand in reality as well.

In a particular scene, Hutch is about to confront two individuals involved in a home invasion linked to his daughter’s bracelet. The tattoo's significance is highlighted when a bystander, noting its symbolism, recognizes it as a dark marker of Hutch's past, potentially tied to his time in special forces. Additionally, the 7-2 hand carries negative connotations beyond poker; in cartomancy, it signifies bad news, hinting at imminent danger or death.

The choice of such an unremarkable hand links directly to Hutch's character; despite his mundane appearance, he harbors a complex and tumultuous backstory. The tattoo does not appear to be arbitrary; instead, it subtly conveys his struggles and resilience in the face of adversity. Just as the odds of winning with a 7-2 hand are minimal, Hutch’s journey in the film mirrors this theme, illustrating how life can serve unexpected challenges.

In essence, the 7 of Spades and 2 of Diamonds tattoo becomes a focal point in Nobody, representative of Hutch Mansell's darker past, his lowly position in life, and ultimately, his journey towards reclaiming power against overwhelming odds.

What Does The Semicolon (;) Symbol Mean?

The semicolon (;) is a punctuation mark widely used in English as a form of orthographic punctuation. It serves primarily to connect two closely related independent clauses within a sentence, emphasizing a relationship between them. This punctuation indicates a pause that is longer than that of a comma but shorter than a period, allowing thoughts to flow more smoothly. The semicolon is particularly valuable for linking ideas that are similar or contrasting, as it conveys complex relationships in writing.

In addition to its grammatical uses, the semicolon has gained significance as a tattoo symbol. A semicolon tattoo represents solidarity and affirmation for individuals grappling with issues related to suicide, depression, and addiction. This powerful message has resonated with many, turning the semicolon into a symbol of hope and mental wellness.

The semicolon's role extends beyond merely connecting ideas; it can also clarify complex series in lists or separate items that contain commas. For instance, when elements of a series include commas, semicolons can be employed to avoid confusion. Thus, a semicolon can enhance the clarity of writing while connecting independent clauses with related themes.

The semicolon itself is visually likened to a cross between a comma and a period, resulting in its name, which literally means "half colon." This unique appearance illustrates its intermediary function in punctuation, balancing the significance of its use between simple and final statements. Understanding how to use semicolons effectively can greatly enrich one’s writing style.

In summary, the semicolon serves as a crucial punctuation tool, linking independent clauses and clarifying complex sentences while also taking on a deeper, more symbolic meaning as a tattoo. It has become a beacon of hope for many, representing resilience and the continuation of life amid struggles.   • To me it represents the promise I made to myself to keep going on. You want to be happy and not drown in this pain? Then swim! How many promises have you made throughout your life that you don’t remember even making? This is a perminent reminder. So, everytime I try and make that jump,i ‘m going to see that tattoo and think wooooooooow there,wait a minute missy,remember that promise you made? It says,Everything will be alright in the end, so if it is not alright it is not the end;

  • I’ve only just decided to get one of these tattoos tonight, while procrastinating for my exam. I’ve felt so low these past few days leading up to an exam that will seem insignificant in the long run but right now it feels like the worst thing in the world. I’ve been struggling with depression for the last few years, and I’ll be getting it, along with the words “not yet over” by my collarbone, so that every day when I look in the mirror, it’s there, but mostly so that when other people see me, it’ll be one of the first things they’ll see (provided my clothes don’t cover it.) sure, it’ll be backwards in the mirror, but my life feels backwards, so in a weird way it’s fitting. It’s a beautiful way to show solidarity for others and to remind yourself that no matter how bad things may get, you’ve chosen to live through it. One day my future children will ask about it, and I’ll explain it to them while they are young, so that they never feel like they can’t talk about these things with me.

  • My first tattoo is going to be of an ellipsis (…). In grammar, it usually represents suspense for something that’s either really really good, or really really bad. The ellipsis for me represents that you don’t know what’s going to happen, and if you don’t stay to see what the suspense was for, you don’t know if the outcome would have been positive or negative.

  • Great- it isn’t raising money. But this isn’t worthless. Popele who are depressed. suicidal, self harming, anxiety, etc. take something away from the semicolon. This is giving those people hope and that may be all they have. People like this are not weak- they are strong because choosing to keep fighting when you want to die is fucking stronger than anything i’ve ever seen. From personal experiance the semicolon is THE most powerful thing i’ve ever witnessed;

  • I personally want this tattoo. Not many people know what I have battled on the inside and this will show that I am trying to continue on and be happy while taking one day at a time. Will i donate to charity if people think getting this tattoo is stupid? Yes i will match how much I pay for the tattoo and give it to a mental health charity. I have anxiety and depression but I try like hell everyday to not allow it to control what I do. to people everywhere there will always be haters but rock what you do and just learn from your mistakes xoxox

  • I’m getting mine in 3 hours I’m really emotional 😭 I have bipolar type 2 I’m always on a emotional rollercoasters. Before my 21st birthday my mom was screaming and crying saying my cousin suicided… seeing how much she hurted her family and mine open my eyes. She ended the pain but passed it to others. I’m almost 26 never thought I would fight depression I chose to keep going. Everywhere I go I see hearts ♥️ I know shes there with me.(she suicided on February 11,2017 & my birthday is on February 19. ) Doing it as a gift for myself

  • I was bullied during 5th grade….. And I remember in detail how I was about to end my life in front of the girls who bullied me. But from that day, I remember I felt as if God told me not to take my life away. Then, around last year and the beginning of this year, I had 5 attempts but I chose to live. Now, I want to get a semicolon tattoo to show what I would have done during my attempts and yet, I choose to continue to live my life. To be with my family and friends. To show that I have survived and I am here, alive.

  • can not wait to get mine one done in august.TO help people like my who have got a mental illness such as my self as I been told I got aniexty since 2014 and as well my mum with aniexty and depression also one of my friend who has depression I am ready to stand my ground and get through this battle I am now ready.
