How To Adjust Needle Depth On Wormhole Tattoo Pen?

3.5 rating based on 72 ratings

Wormhole Tattoo is a popular tattoo pen designed for both beginners and artists. It allows tattooers to focus on their work by adjusting the needle and machine to enter the skin at the correct depth. The needle should go approximately 1/16th of an inch deep into the skin. To adjust the needle depth, push the a-bar down, extend the needles fully, and adjust the tip so that just 1-2mm of needle is sticking out.

Practice hanging out the needle and pulling lines on fake skin to establish muscle memory and consistency. Once the tube is assembled, adjust the needle’s exposure by adjusting the tube vise. Most pen machines have a grip to set the depth, but we recommend manually controlling needle depth by floating the needle. This ensures that the tip of the tattoo needle is adjusted only to enter the skin at a certain depth, not a millimeter shallower or more profound.

Tattoo pens are also rotary tattoo machines, making it easier to go too deep in the skin if you aren’t careful with your needle depth. To avoid going too deep, insert the compatible tattoo needle cartridge into the tattoo pen and check for the seal. Adjust the needle depth by rotating the grip when the pen is not working.

When using a rotary tattoo pen, apply pressure with the hand holding the machine, pressing down into the skin for more depth after adjusting the springs.

Are Wormhole Tattoo Pen Kits Safe?

The Wormhole Tattoo Pen Kit is designed for beginners, offering a comfortable, quiet, low-vibration experience while tattooing. However, the inks and needles provided in the kit are unsafe for human skin, raising concerns about the safety standards of a company that claims to specialize in tattoo supplies. Wu Jian, the founder of Wormhole Tattoo since 2016, prioritizes safety, emphasizing its importance to his clients. Despite this, many tattoo inks from kits can contain harmful chemicals and metals, making it crucial for users to be aware of potential risks.

The kit includes a lightweight rotary pen, 11 basic ink colors, a pedal, and various accessories like needles and ink cups, aimed at easing the learning curve for new artists. Nevertheless, the grip design allows for unintentional depth adjustments, complicating usage for novices. Although the brand assures that their tattoo ink is safe, vegan-friendly, and compliant with EU regulations, many users have flagged issues with needle length and exposure when the pen is inactive.

User reviews highlight concerns about the kit's components. While some users appreciate the functionality of the Wormhole Tattoo products, they caution about the ink's safety and potential health risks. Despite the kit being marketed as beginner-friendly, its shortcomings emphasize the importance of conducting thorough research on tattoo supplies before use. Wormhole Tattoo emphasizes ongoing innovation and reliability in their products, backed by warranties for pen machines and accessories, but the overall safety of their inks remains a significant concern.

How Do Tattoo Pens Work

How Do Tattoo Pens Work?

Tattoo pens operate using needle cartridges that can be locked into place by twisting them into the grip. It's advisable to choose needles with a membrane to prevent contamination from blood, ink, and plasma. Most pen machines allow the artist to adjust the needle depth by twisting the grip. As one of the newest options available, tattoo pens are particularly favored by beginners due to their ease of use and setup. Some models are battery-operated, while others utilize an RCA cord, similar to traditional rotary machines.

To effectively use a tattoo pen, mastering the technique is crucial for creating beautiful designs. Artists must understand the core fundamentals of tattooing, from setup to troubleshooting. The article provides guidance on using the pen machine exemplified by the Free Warri, highlighting the tattoo pen's rise as the preferred choice among artists. During the tattooing process, the artist must stretch the skin and activate the machine with a foot pedal, allowing the needles to move up and down.

Tattoo pens with shader needle configurations yield cleaner lines by working on softer skin surfaces, unlike traditional needle arrangements. Effective tattoo application with a pen requires skill and practice; proper grip on the pen is vital—artists should hold it firmly yet comfortably. At the beginning of a session, artists may remove the cap, place it in a designated bag, and cover it with a disposable cap, which is often required legally.

Unlike traditional tattoo guns that rely on electromagnetic coils, tattoo pens use a motor to drive the needles, enabling precise adjustments to needle speed and motion. This motorized operation offers an audible buzzing sound during use, providing feedback to the artist. Pen-style machines are rotary in design and are particularly beneficial for new tattooists, while the tattoo pen itself, despite not being professional-grade, possesses sufficient power for practice, featuring a 3. 5 mm machine stroke ideal for lining and shading.

The Wormhole Tattoo Pen Kit is an ideal choice for beginners entering the tattooing world. Its grip swivels, which can inadvertently change the depth, but the kit’s simplicity helps newcomers focus on essentials without unnecessary add-ons that inflate the cost. While doubts arise regarding the ink’s safety, the kit includes a powerful, long-lasting battery ensuring hours of uninterrupted use, a vital feature for artists. This kit allows for precise needle adjustments and offers two adjustment stages, making it easy to fine-tune the needle stroke.

The Wormhole Tattoo Pen Kit (WTK070) is budget-friendly yet comprehensive, packed with necessary accessories, and backed by warranties for the pen and foot pedal (12 months and 6 months, respectively). It includes round liner (RL) needles designed for detailed line work. Although the tattoo pen isn’t professional-grade, it surprisingly delivers enough power and has a 3. 5 mm stroke for practice in lining and shading. Users will benefit from 5-step instructions on proper usage and maintenance for optimal results.

The Wormhole Shader can assist artists with ultra-light shading, provided they can adapt to minor vibrations. Overall, this kit aims to facilitate entry into the art of tattooing with ease and reliability.

How Do You Tighten A Tattoo Needle

How Do You Tighten A Tattoo Needle?

Before tightening the tattoo clamp completely, adjust your needle to the desired depth for tattooing. It's advisable to "float" the needle, ensuring that it aligns with the end of the cartridge. If the needle extends beyond the cartridge when the machine is off, it's set too deep. This process is commonly misunderstood, which I explore in this video. Human skin comprises three layers—particularly the epidermis, which has five sublayers. These layers flake away and regenerate, making it essential to know how deep your needle should go.

The depth setting of the needle is critical for achieving a satisfactory tattoo outcome, and preferences may vary between artists regarding depth. A practical approach is to practice on fake skin to build muscle memory and consistency, which are key to creating solid and saturated lines. When setting the needle depth on your tattoo gun, adjust it carefully by turning the grip to ensure the needles reach the dermis accurately.

Understanding needle depth—defined as how far the needles protrude from the cartridge—is vital for effective tattooing. It's important not to confuse needle depth with stroke length. Having the correct needle depth is foundational for a successful tattoo.

Initially, push the a-bar down until the needles are fully extended, then adjust the tip to allow for 1-2 mm of needle exposure. If you're having trouble with your tattoo gun or needle extension, there are solutions available, like adjusting the contact screw on a coil machine. Grasping these fundamentals will significantly enhance your proficiency as a tattoo artist by creating beautiful, lasting designs.
