In this webinar, artist Bryan Sánchez M discusses his creative process for turning a picture into a tattoo stencil using Clip Studio Paint. He shares his sketching, reference use, and adapting digital tools to create tattoos in Clip Studio Paint’s Simple Mode.
Sánchez M is a tattoo apprentice who has fallen in love with the simplicity of Clip Studio Paint’s Simple Mode. He shares his experience with creating tattoos with brushes that behave similarly to a real tattoo machine and how he adapts Clip Studio Paint digital tools.
To start, turn the tattoo layer into a form that can be edited by right-clicking on it in the Layer palette and selecting Rasterize. Next, create a new canvas using the standard A4 canvas size. Go to Edit in the main menu and choose Tonal Correction and Reverse Gradient.
Creating tattoo flashes becomes simple and fast using brushes. These brushes allow you to save time and find ideas. A tutorial on using color pencils to create tattoo flashes is provided.
By mastering graphic design fundamentals such as principles, elements, typography, and the effective use of white and negative space, you can create perfect line art for your tattoo stencils and take the whole drawing to a full color.
