I was in prison with this girl, I spent the last 10 years on the same compound with her. She definitely says that she is the one who turned down the 15 year plea not the prosecutors office, so weird, she always walks around saying she’s so dumb for turning that plea down and taking it to trial and she regrets it so much, I never knew it was the prosecutors office who actually turned it down. I can also assure you she is in there not walking around depressed every day. I don’t think a life sentence was really fair in the situation, and I’m sure she probably does feel bad, but she isn’t in there struggling every day, she’s acclimated and found a way to once again follow the crowd. It’s sad.
She was part of the “premeditation” she new he was gonna get hurt even if she just thought they were gonna “beat him up”, beatings/fights go wrong all the time people are left paralyzed and people die too, point blank she knew she brought him there to get hurt, sadly his life was lost because of all 3 of them.
Maybe I misunderstood but it sounded like to me when she was describing it on the phone to her mom when she first was arrested that she was there when it happened. I think she deserves it. She knowingly and willfully led this guy with ill intent. Whether he was getting beat up and robbed or killed and robbed is really inconsequential. If the genders were reversed and it was a man leading a woman, you would probably think he deserved the sentence.
“It’s like someone died”, someone DID die? Directly from the actions caused by her. She may not have pulled the trigger, but she was still the reason he was there to begin with. She led him there under false pretenses, knowing that at least some harm was going to come to him (whether or not she knew he was going to be killed is only something of speculation). And to say as if it’s facts that she wasn’t physically there when he was shot, is misleading on your part. Not to mention, people can be charged first degree murder for bullying someone into suicide. I believe she does deserve life in prison for her actions. She was instrumental in someone losing their life. I can see her being charged with accessory to murder, instead, maybe, but her sentence is still just. Maybe a chance for appeal, after 25 years, if she shows she has been reformed and has remorse. Also, it does seem like when she did her interview in prison, she wasn’t taking any blame or showing remorse. She kept putting it on being manipulated, being on drugs, etc. Yes those can make someone not who they normally are, but it is not an excuse for your actions, which is how she’s playing it. His family will never see him again, because of their actions. They ALL deserve the sentence they received. I am a Floridian, and we do have very strict laws, and i may not agree with all of them, but i do agree that if you willingly played a part is someone else’s death, you should be sentenced accordingly.
Part of me says she shouldn’t be in jail for life, as she didn’t kill him and they all didn’t think he’d be killed, but the other part of me says she led him into that alleyway. FYI: getting a prescription for a low dose of Baclofen is the only thing that resolves chronic hiccups. The reason why I know this is because my fiancé suffered with prolonged cases of hiccups in the past. It took doctors a lot of trial and error, but they discovered that Baclofen (a mild muscle relaxer) does ameliorate chronic hiccups. ☺️
Just saying, but she made no attempt to help him after he was shot. She didn’t try to call 911, go to the police, run to a house and frantically knock on the door. Nothing! She made no attempt to help him. She ran with the other murderers and tried to hide the evidence. She acted like she was responsible for his death instead of a bystander like she says, so she should be treated like it.
It breaks my heart that this poor boy lost his home and basically lost everything and then met a girl he thought he was going on a date with and then lost his life. It’s just so upsetting. As soon as I heard her hiccup noise, I assumed it was fake. Real hiccups don’t care if you’re talking, you’ll hiccup in the middle of whatever word you’re saying. If we would follow the laws on the books in all cases, it would certainly cut out the possibility of people getting off the hook due to race, gender, or social status. Of course, in a perfect world, this crime would never had been committed. Regarding her DNA on the victim, that simply proved she was there which set her up for the punishment even though she didn’t pull the trigger. She did indeed set up the meet. He would not have been there but for her. We cannot lose sight of the fact that a young man lost his life. A mother lost her son. I agree it is a very sad situation she is in, and as a parent I cannot imagine seeing your daughter in that situation, but neither can I imagine the loss of a son to such a cold-hearted, senseless act. When she was asked what she thought was a fair sentence, she answered 20 years. I find it interesting she was willing to gamble over that 5 year difference. I understand his life cannot be replaced by her imprisonment, but with a law like that in place, it is very black and white. I seriously doubt whether her being ‘the hiccup girl” had any bearing on the case. Of course, I wasn’t in the courtroom, so that is just an unqualified opinion. This is a sad situation all the way around.
Jennifer didn’t “fall into the wrong crowd,” she IS the “wrong crowd.” She lured the man to the robbery, knowing that he could die if things went wrong. Even if she didn’t know there was a gun involved, she left him to be beat up by 2 men, which could have killed him. Lock her up and throw away the key 🤷🏼♀️
Naw, she maliciously coerced him there. She knew something was going to happen to him and still lured him there. I can’t imagine the poor guy being excited about a date while she knew something bad was going to happen to him. She can say she didn’t know there was a gun involved but they could have killed him without a gun as well. I’m not sure how I feel about the sentence but its not a lot of sympathy.
“I just thought they were going to beat him up” if they would have beat him to death it would have been the same result as pulling the trigger. She knowingly sent him into harm. She didn’t care about his life. I also hate when people say “I got in with the wrong crowd” take responsibility for your own actions. You CHOSE to be there. No one made you do it. And if she felt remorse she should’ve called the cops right after it happened.

I feel like her lawyer is absolutely right that her being a low level celebrity of sorts definitely worked against her. She was famous enough to make an example of, but not famous enough to have any real power after a harsh sentencing. It feels like the judge “threw the people a bone” by not letting a “celeb” get away with murder…
All I think of is that poor boy, so excited thinking he was going on a date. Getting dressed up and ready to meet a girl only to walk right into his own death. It really upsets me. Yes she got a stiff punishment but it’s true that she was the one who lured him there and without her he would still be alive. It was a senseless, unnecessary loss and thinking about that poor boy… well she deserves what she got
This poor guy was lured by her. He thought he was going on a date. She knew he was at LEAST going to be beaten in that alley, but she still let him walk down there knowing that. I feel terrible that his young life was taken in an instant for $50. I think she defeatedly got the sentence she deserved. He had his life taken, his dreams, his families dreams, his future and he is the only one NOT deserving of the sentence that was handed to him that night.
I really think it’s interesting that people are saying that’s a harsh sentence when if the roles were reversed everyone would be cheering that it turned out this way. Even that jail interview, her statements are all about herself and how hard this is on her, and the interviewer is basically agreeing with her, the news coverage all sounds baffled that she should get this kind of sentence, but it’s really just that she’s a young white girl. I’m just sorry for the young man that lost his life…
Assuming she orchestrated it knowing either assault that could lead to the victim death or that murder could or would take place she was charged appropriately as it was basically equivalent to hiring a hit-man in my opinion. If it was possible to prove she had no idea assault to that degree or murder was going to take place then yes she got to much time but its really hard to prove intentions and if she was willing to plan robbery and assault to be committed how do we know she wouldn’t be ok with murder as well. Its just my opinion im glad the family of the victim got to see justice and that gender and race didn’t lead to any of the perpetrators walking away with less time.
“It’s almost like someone dies in prison” yeah, almost. This man ACTUALLY died and for only $50. Her family still sees her while his mother and siblings lost someone they loved so much. She knew he was going to be harmed and continued. She deserves her sentence. Also, stop bringing up the fact that she was a kid. I’m the same age as her and I would never do that to someone.

She’s just as guilty as the person who shot him. She knew they were dangerous people that were going to rob him/beat him up. If she knew these people, she knew they carried guns. That interview at the end in prison. “What happened to that sweet 15 year old girl”, “I got mixed up with the wrong crowd”. I’m sick of hearing that excuse, it’s just abdication of responsibility, you are not the crowd you are you take responsibility for your actions. The phonecall to her mum was strange.The mum reacted like she it was something minor she did like get caught drinking under age and it sounded like she wasn’t that suprised to hear what she had done.
How is the “my child is easily influenced” defense much different than “he’s got a promising future” defense? She’s locked up for life, but she is still breathing. Let her live in the people zoo. Awe it’s depressing for HER.. boo hoo that family is devastated. I believe our system is broken, but this does not smell of injustice. This smells of excuses.

Might just be that I’m from a country that doesn’t even technically have life sentences (like, we have the sentence of ‘life in prison but the rules are that after a certain amount of time you have to start getting regular parole hearings so almost no one actually spends their whole life in prison) but that’s way too much time.
Are there any updates? This case really splits you in half. That’s Florida law. All of them have to be held responsible. Her finger print was on the ID of the victim. So I see how they went after that. Just bc she’s one of “America’s little darlings”, and she had the hiccups doesn’t mean she’s not capable. Someone DID DIE. The victim DIED. She played a MAJOR ROLE in that. SHE BAITED that poor guy to his death. I don’t like that this article gives HER more compassion than the victim. If she were remorseful she’d have called the police. She’d have tried to help him…his family. Did she ever even apologize?? I don’t like this one.
I’ve never had hiccups that went away while I was talking like hers supposedly did I find that weird About how she got charged I think she knew what a possibility of a robbery was She deserved to get charged because if she never set him up he’d be alive. I think that she should be doing life in prison. Why did the guy get dressed up and say he was going on a date? Clearly, she said something to imply that they were going to have a date. She also said she set it up. Whatever happened, him being beat up or murdered, comes with the territory. She knew her man was up to no good. She herself was up to no good. Who just sends an unsuspecting man to two other men???
But she did know what the others were going to do. He’s not going to come back. Her hiccups had nothing to do with him getting murdered. If a person is in a wheelchair and commits murder he doesn’t get a sympathy sentence. He still gets life. She didn’t know they had a gun? They were robbing somebody! You lured someone into a sketchy ally. You didn’t do that because you thought they were just going to hug and become BFFs. You made a bad decision and someone lost their life over it. You didn’t even call for emergency services to help him. You fled. You lured him to his death and then got him no aid. Life is reasonable.
My cousin had to be hospitalized when I was younger due to having the hiccups for 6 months straight. It was so sad she was miserable they had to sedate her and I know she was in the hospital for in the upwards of a week I believe. Her heart weakened because of the hiccups. This was back in the 90s. I’m not sure what caused it or if they ever found out but it was really really awful.
I believe she ABSOLUTELY deserves a life sentence. That young man thought he was going on a date. He was excited, got dressed up nice, put in cologne.. it absolutely breaks my heart. While it seems harsh, this could also have been charged as capital murder, and she could have faced the death penalty… so first degree murder WAS going easy; I know many people may not see it that way, but it is. I personally believe we all need to stop blaming others and take responsibility for our individual choices. She has the nerve to say “I felt bad instantly after leaving him”… she made the choice to continue walking. I don’t believe that she had no idea a gun was involved. I understand many not agree, but I truly believe justice was served. Too many young, black men are being killed for no reason.
She deserves what she got. Bleeding hearts are getting rid of the death penalty. I say send a strong message to these criminals. If you want crime to decrease, get rid of parole boards and time off for good behavior. They all act good in prison. When they are released early they stop acting good. How many people have been victimized by repeat offenders?
One thing my mom always taught me “Guilty by association” her involvement in planning the robbery was her downfall. Without her luring him there he would have still been alive. Robbery alone is a crime that has the potential for many risks including someone dying. Either way she had to have known someone was going to get hurt. I stand with Florida’s decision
Kendall Rae is right!! Florida is a whole other beast! When someone is murdered during the commission of a felony, which includes burglary, the penalties are harsh and can even include the death penalty. I actually live right down the street from the prison she is in! Something we Floridians said:: Come on vacation, leave on probation, come back on violation
She was out to commit a crime that night just not the one that occurred. As far as I am concerned life is more than deserved. You repeated exactly what the prosecution said. Without her setting up her intended crime this wouldn’t have happened. It’s unfortunate some of the young ones end up locked for life. You are allowed to feel bad for them but that doesn’t change what happened or what will be a continuous result in the family members of the murder victim. Lost holidays, no kids, no father, no future story period. Life is what you took intentional or not and your life belongs to the system now. Seems fine to me.
She knew that regardless that the situation would’ve been violent, she claimed to have expected them to beat him up which is still assault, she still lured him with the intention of hurting him in some way– it doesn’t matter whether or not she knew that he was going to be murdered. She still LURED him out there TO BE attacked.
I feel like “prison” sentences should focus on rehabilitation and reintegration into society and using what you have learnt to make better choices, Instead of “time served” it should be miles stones of improvement, give people motivation to become better people. She did make some awful decisions, but that doesn’t mean she can’t change for the better.
