Ying /yeen/ is a Chinese word also used to describe shade, like shade under a tree (su ying = tree shade). Yang (aaaalmost sounds like ‘young’ in English) is light or brightness. Tai yang means light from sun. To characterize these two, passive, softer, negative, and “feminine” qualities are considered ying. Shade is passive if that helps you remember. Then, the opposite qualities (active, strong, hard, positive, extrovert, “masculine”) are assigned to yang. This is not to say women are always ying and men are yang. Is it just me or does the yin and yang fit perfectly with the energy within atoms. Quarks. Up and down. In protons we have 2 up and 1 down. In neutrons we have 1 up and 2 downs. If we follow thay thought connecting it to Daoism then instead of calling quarks an arbitrary name like up and down. We could explain it as Push and Pull energy. Light being push energy and Dark being pull energy. That within an individual atom is a relationship between Push and Pull, or 1 and 0.

We Westerners are used to the idea of a commander/commandee relationship to the world, i.e. God and Man, but the Tao is completely different in the sense that Nature in and of itself is self-regulating and doesn’t need a commander to tell it to go. Sorry, (almost) everyone, but no. You’re still assigning the good/bad polarization to yang/yin when it has nothing to do with morals or any other human invention. The “positivness” of yang can mean action, like creation (which we see as good), but it can also mean agression (which we see as bad). Yin is “negative” in the sense of stillness, like acceptance and adaptibility, or inactivity. They both manifest in ways we like to interpret in terms of good/bad, desirable/undesirable, and, ultimately, good/bad. Daoism is much more a philosophy than a religion, because it is non-judgemental in it’s essence, since it doesn’t bother with human-centric (or any, for that matter) point of view.

Wow, in Hinduism we have Kundalini the explains almost what yinyang says. Kundalini is said to be our brain and the spinal cord combined and has everything to do with how we understand the universe and how we are connected to it. There are three energy lines of Kundalini. I realized that everthing is infinity and zero at the same time, through my meditation sessions. We all strive towards what we love to be accomplish, which is an infinity, but it’s just another zero because we can always keep improving towards another infinity. It’s the process that matters, not the destination. It’s amazing to me that the Chinese have already figured this out and explained it in a much better way than I could. Yang is infinity. Yin is zero. It’s truly humbling. Everything is meaningful and meaningless at the same time.
Yin Yang = Culture Culture is about who we are, how we define ourselves and how we make meaning of the world around us. It informs everything we do. Culture arises from the community… it encompasses our entire mode of life, our ethics, our institutions, our manners and our routines, not only interpreting our world but shaping it.

As a student of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, I learn that the front of the body is the yin side and the back of the side the yang side. Basically, the places where you are more likely to be tanner are Yang, like the outside of your forearms and legs, and the top of your body verses the bottom side. There is one Yang meridian that crosses the front of the body, the Stomach meridian, but overall, I have to disagree that the front of the body is the Yang side!

yin-yang represents change. the point that we missed is how the change of good things into bad and bad things into good is inevitable; because there is no absolute good or absolute evil. both contains seeds of each other. give it time, good things will automatically emerge from bad roots and sadly all good causes today will turn to bad one day. religion is the best example i can think. how it was created by good people for good things (though now we think they did a horrible thing) but in my opinion, religion is a lost cause considering the current state of the world. so we should always keep yin-yang in mind and take nothing for granted as good and bad as they are always interchanging. apply this to your life. throw out your bad habits that you once started for good. learn from bad things as they contains seed for good. don’t be like a stiff tree my friend( people with strong opinions), be like the bamboo tree, always learn someting new from situations presented. go be like the wind. keep changing because only change is permanent.

Taoism used to be so meaningful. But now toaism (esp in south east asia where im from) has lost its true meaning. Toaism has become a ‘religion’ full of ceremonial rituals with people practicing them doing it for the sake of tradition, they know nothing of the true meaning of yin and yand nor do they know there is a ‘dao de jing’ which convey the true path for a meaningful life. Every year I hear most of my friends who come from toaist families go to all sorts of toaist rituals filled with offerings, paper burnings and superstition for blessings. Everyone has forgotten how simple it is to actually be a true toaist.
My Dad is A Yang Dragon and I am A Yin Rabbit, meaning my Dad is a Christian while I mustn’t be A Christian. People who are really good at things have an attitude of being better than they are currently, Im sorry if there’s a huge competition of sorts that I really wanna win and I know I’m not good enough to win I gotta push myself to be better than I am, push my limits so I can try to be the best and have a chance at winning, if you want to win at certain things in life you gotta try to be the best, it’s almost impossible to win every battle but with motivation to be better and push yourself you can win the things you want too most with time and motivation, but you need the motivation to be better and push yourself, I don’t care how wise your little quote sounds if theirs something you truely wanna win in, have a mindset like that and unless your naturally better than everyone else at the ompilpic game, you gotta try to be the best if you want a chance to be the best, if you don’t care about winning tho that mindset is fine

But the existence of evil is to show you the real value of good.. For example, someone never be I’ll in whole life, he will never know the value of health but if he just have illnesses from time to time he will know the value of health. So does this mean that there is a misconception of yin and yang? Yin and yang seem to no be about balance but more so about chaos and control and how either one becomes one another when both ends reach extremes. And the only times that there is balance is when they work amongst each other. But not because they actively work amongst one another but because they naturally find each other in life. Ying & yang is the same as man and female. If you go back to your nature (instinct), accept and implement the rules of nature and you will create definity. Love is the highest form of frequency there is. You need to use your conscious to control your emotions to keep it in balance. Every single thing in life has a opposite. Some energies need to be in balance more than others, simply because of the force it holds.
The problem with the idea of learning to live with yourself as who you are is it can turn into an excuse to simply be and do the destructive things you don´t have the moral courage to address. Eastern philosophy has its merits, but too often people adopt it as a cop out from actually having to do something difficult.
Yes the balance. It runs this world and makes it still exist. It implies in everysingle form of thing on this world. Ive been reading many philosophies and found out the answer which is pretty much the same with this philosophy and im happy with it. I think they lead to the same direction. But who knows ? Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta is all about this too. I say the objective of the whole war of Mahabharata was not to declare one victorious but tell how both the sides are not to sustain, one side was yang and the other was yin, there were not good or bad. Just to make very clear. I am not here to argue what I have experienced. I am just only sharing after reaching a higher consciousness and tapping into my inner being. The true meaning of the yin and yang is. A little bit of darkness must be in the light and a little bit of light must be in the darkness for there to be balance. Now each half of the ring surrounding the symbol either side would do whatever it takes to protect the other half of their wholeness, from anything that isn’t true darkness. such as the other half of the symbol. And The Light half, she will do just the same. The dark half does not care who he hurts to protect the other half of his wholeness. As long as he does not cross that line of the balance that he is the other half of. Which would be anything, and anyone made of Fathers light. which will make us all whole.
Yan is Divine Masculine and Yin is Divine Feminine. In Hinduism too we believe in this duality and associate the earth as feminine, and the sky as masculine. Shiva, the divine Masculine, is the body of every thing. Like the cup. While Shakti, the divine feminine is the essence of it. Everything that is stoic and strong is masculine. Everything that moves and has a flow is feminine. And both are powerful in their own ways. They force can also be differentiated as masculine or feminine depending on their nature. A powerful storm can be feminine, while a drought can be masculine.
I think Ying is the inner potential and Yang is the force and processes you use to achieve and show it. Some people are very brave or extroverted or hard-working but have zero values or inner ideas. Other are very sensitive or intellligent but ackward. None of these extremes is good. But I have more Yin force
It is an old mistake to say that Yin is the Dark, Negative, side of Death; while Yang is Life, Good, Virtue and so on. Day is good for working, never for sleeping; while Night is good for Sleeping, not working. It all depends on the moment, the occasion and so on. The mountain valley is Yin and it is Moist, Fertile, Full of Nutrients and Life! Yang is the top of the mountain that freezes in winter, in summer it gets too hot, it is a place where few can grow, because there are storms, lightning, strong winds… Saying that Yin is Bad and Yang is Good is a mistake.

I feel like you and most people only see this through a lens of temporal human stereotypes. Maybe I just read from different sources, but I think the point has been missed here. To me, a good analogy would be the allegory of the cave made by Plato where a fire casts shadows on the wall, and this is the typical experience of reality. In my view, the fire is yang and the shadows are yin. This is why yang is associated with heaven and yin is associated with the earth. Yang is the spirit, and yin is the body. Both must be present for existence to manifest in the sense that existence as we know it is a physical manifestation (yin) induced by the spirit (yang). Just as the earth and all of its life was created out of a formless void (yin) by God (yang) according to the Bible. That God is male is not some misogynistic fantasy but rather a human reflection of the same wisdom we see in the east. And Plato’s forms, I think are also a reflection of yang. For God created man in his own image. And what was the beginning of the process? LET THERE BE LIGHT! In the Christian religion, God and our spiritual connection to Him is yang. Our physical existence, our bodies, our churches are the yin. This is why it is said that the church is the bride of Christ. And of course, it is said of Shiva that without Shakti, he cannot move a muscle. Again, the form, the principle, God’s law, however you might think of it is the male energy. The manifestation, the life force, the thirst for pleasure, the fear of pain, all of the animal nature is the female energy.
