Who Is Tina Hutchence?

Tina Hutchence, Michael Hutchence's half-sister, shares heartfelt memories of her brother, recalling moments from their childhood. During a fashion show she was organizing at a department store, Tina enlisted Michael and his brother Rhett, noting that Rhett was comfortable in front of the audience, while a young Michael, around nine or ten years old, was hesitant and needed encouragement to participate. Tina expresses her deep sense of loss, remembering Michael’s charming smile, powerful hugs, and vibrant sense of humor.

As the year 2000 dawns, Tina reflects on memories from forty years prior when their parents brought Michael home as a little boy. She recently spoke with Lisa Wilkinson on The Project, discussing the turmoil surrounding Michael's relationship with Paula Yates, which resulted in the birth of his daughter, Tiger Lily. In a new tell-all book, Tina addresses the sorrowful circumstances of her brother's life and the ensuing challenges their family faced following his tragic death.

Approaching the 20th anniversary of Michael's passing, Tina reveals her belief that he succumbed to despair due to depression and the long-term effects of a brain injury. Residing in California's Santa Cruz mountains, she shares her fond recollections of Michael during an interview with Michael Crooks from WHO. She remembers her brother as a happy and easygoing child, recounting the day he announced he had joined a rock band, despite not playing any instruments at the time.

Tina strives to portray a different side of Michael, one that contrasts with the media's often distorted narratives. As the foundation for his legacy, inspired by a portrait of Michael created by Joanne Shaw, Tina has taken an active role advocating for her brother’s memory. Additionally, Tina reflects on how her relationship with Michael shaped her life, including the challenges of moving frequently and being introverted.

Despite their close bond, Tina has lost contact with her niece, Tiger Lily, for nearly two decades. Tina, a known actress and art instructor specializing in makeup, currently leads a career lecturing throughout the United States. Michael Hutchence tragically died at 37 in November 1997, leaving a profound impact on the music world and his family's lives, which Tina continues to navigate through her reflections and advocacy.

  • I don’t buy it that Noel was ever really hard into drugs. Sure he smoked a bit of weed and maybe dabbled in coke on a handful of occasions for that rockstar experience….but really, I reckon he was level headed the majority of the time. You kind of need to be if you are performing and keeping a band going for over decade.
