Who Is Mel Gibson Married To?

Mel Gibson was paid $9000 for his role in "Mad Max" (1979) and subsequently participated in a season with the South Australian Theatre Company. During this time, he lived in a modest apartment in Adelaide for $30 a week with his future wife, Robyn Moore. Following "Mad Max," he took on the role of a mentally slow youth in the film "Tim" in the same year. Gibson met Robyn Denise Moore in 1977 around the time he began filming "Mad Max." At that time, Robyn was working as a dental nurse, while Mel was still an emerging actor.

The couple married on June 7, 1980, in a Catholic church in Forestville, New South Wales, and together they have seven children, including their daughter Hannah, born in 1980, who is married to Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Even after their divorce in 2011, Mel and Robyn maintained a meaningful connection through their children.

For the past decade, Mel Gibson has been in a relationship with Rosalind Ross, a talented screenwriter. The couple started dating in 2014, capturing attention due to their 34-year age difference. In January 2017, they welcomed their son, Lars Gerard Gibson, marking Mel's ninth child. Despite their long-term relationship, Gibson and Ross have not yet married.

Gibson's career continued to flourish over the years. After his role in "Mad Max," he experienced significant success, including notable performances in films like "Braveheart." Nevertheless, his personal life has been a subject of public interest, particularly his lengthy marriage to Robyn Moore and subsequent relationship with Rosalind Ross.

While Mel is currently devoted to Rosalind, the public continues to occasionally question the status of their relationship, as they have been together for several years without tying the knot. Gibson's previous marriage lasted over three decades, making his adjustment to life with Ross and their shared child notable.

Overall, Mel Gibson's life reflects a combination of professional triumph and personal complexities, including a large family with his ex-wife, Robyn Moore, and a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Rosalind Ross. The intertwining of these facets of his life creates a multifaceted portrait of the actor, director, and father.

Does Mel Gibson Have A Right To Speak His Mind?

Mel Gibson has historically maintained a low profile in Hollywood, focusing on his craft as an actor and director, while allowing the audience to appreciate his talent. However, his controversial opinions have drawn both criticism and support, with fans and colleagues asserting his right to express his thoughts. In July 2023, following the release of the film "Sound of Freedom," Gibson’s comments about the "evils of Hollywood" emerged online, highlighting his ongoing support for the film. Notably, Jodie Foster, a close friend, came to his defense during this period.

Despite some fans rallying behind him, others remain skeptical of his character, particularly regarding past racist and antisemitic behaviors. Winona Ryder recounted a troubling incident in the '90s where Gibson allegedly made homophobic remarks at a party, causing further scrutiny of his reputation. While some may admire his work, such performances as "Braveheart" and "The Passion of the Christ" cannot overshadow accusations of bigotry.

Although Gibson has expressed remorse for his prior comments, claiming he has "never discriminated against anyone," his history complicates his public perception. In the wake of his offensive remarks made during a 2006 DUI arrest, he later issued apologies to the Jewish community.

Despite allegations impacting his career, Gibson remains a significant figure in Hollywood. Reflections on his journey suggest a complex narrative where a talented actor occasionally clashes with his personal views and past behaviors. His ability to speak freely is juxtaposed with the consequences of his words, raising questions about accountability and the boundaries of free speech. While some argue for his redemption journey, it remains a contentious topic as his career continues to oscillate between highs and lows, marked by both acclaim and controversy surrounding his moral standing.

What Is Mel Gibson'S Religion?

Mel Gibson, known for his rugged good looks and "Sexiest Man of the Year" accolade from People Magazine in 1985, is a devout Traditionalist Catholic, having reverted to faith following a personal spiritual crisis. Embracing a traditionalist stance, Gibson denounces the reforms instituted by the Second Vatican Council, holding on to beliefs from pre-Vatican II Catholicism. Gibson constructed his own church in Malibu and directed a biblical drama, further cementing his faith-related pursuits.

His relationship with Robyn Denise Moore began shortly after he filmed Mad Max in 1977. At the time, Robyn, a dental nurse, and Mel, an unknown actor with the South Australian Theatre Company, developed a bond that resulted in their marriage on June 7, 1980, in a Catholic church located in Forestville, New South Wales. They share a daughter, Hannah, born in 1980, who later married Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Gibson is a prominent figure in Traditionalist communities and has openly discussed his views, asserting, "I go to an all-pre-Vatican II Latin Mass," as he tends to stay clear of Hollywood's spiritual chaos. His traditional Catholic upbringing has also garnered criticism. In a 2006 interview, he declared his commitment to being a true Catholic, confirming he has received all the sacraments of initiation in the Catholic Church.

Describing himself as a Sedevacantist Traditionalist Catholic, Gibson believes that the current pope is not valid due to his divergent views, firmly aligning himself with a segment of Catholicism resistant to the changes post-Vatican II. He founded the Church of the Holy Family in the hills north of Los Angeles, which offers the pre-Vatican II Tridentine Mass but operates independently of the modern Catholic Church.

Notably, following a civil divorce from his wife, Mel Gibson's faith plays a significant role in his identity. Raised in a large Irish Catholic family, he embodies his father's Traditionalist beliefs, as he continues to hold a conservative and right-wing perspective that rejects the modern Catholic Church. His faith journey remains a personal matter, deeply influencing both his life and career.

As a child, Gosling’s mother, Donna, read to him from "The Giving Tree," which influences his body art choices. What Is Mel Gibson'S Real Accent

What Is Mel Gibson'S Real Accent?

Mel Gibson spent the first 10-12 years of his life in America, which influenced the development of his Australian accent, although it was not his authentic accent. His paternal grandmother, Eva Mylott, was a renowned Australian opera singer who married an American. Eventually, his family moved back to Australia, where he developed a distinctly Australian accent, though its strength varies depending on the role; for instance, his voice acting in Pocahontas features a softer Australian accent compared to his work in Mad Max.

Interestingly, newcomers might not recognize his genuine accent, as it was both showcased and altered in various roles. Early in his career, particularly in Mad Max, he demonstrated his natural accent, but the first film of the series, Road Warrior, even had a ‘US English’ dub.

Gibson rose to prominence in Australia, significantly contributing to the Australian New Wave cinema movement, despite only being in Australia for a few years.

Throughout his career, as he transitioned into Hollywood, he showcased his ability to adopt an American accent convincingly, while still retaining his Australian roots. For example, in The Departed, he stood out for having an authentic Massachusetts accent amidst those who did not. Over the years, he has been able to switch between accents, demonstrating his acting range, but his distinctive Australian accent remains evident in many of his films, particularly those produced in Australia like Mad Max, Tim, and Gallipoli.

  • This movie feels like we are actually transported into the times of Mayan civilization. The big reason is Mel’s decision to use the actual language and the hard work they did in costume design. Mel is an extraordinary director. I feel sad that he didn’t get any awards for “The Passion” and “Apocalypto,” but he has won the hearts of his audience which is above all awards.

  • God rest my mother, this was one of her favorite movies of all time!! It took me a bit to convince her to watch it…she said “I don’t like subtitled movies, I always pay attention to the subtitles more and end up missing the movie”…well, she ended up perusal it anyway after my recommendations, and it became one of her most watched movies as something she could revisit when there was nothing else on she liked! She smiled so big when I found out she took my advice…”You were SOOO right!! Even with the subtitles…it somehow makes it BETTER!! I didn’t think I’d ever think that!” I miss my mother. She was an open-minded woman…RIP Mom❤

  • I remember I walked in to my brothers room when he was perusal this when I was about 12 or so, he immediately told me to get out and wait till I’m older to watch this. So that’s what I did and now I’m 23 and just watched it for the first time thinking now was a great time to watch this especially with the eclipse that is coming and I’m much older. And wow what a film. It’s one of those movies you wish you never saw because after the first time you watch it, you just want to go back and watch it again and again without knowing what happens next. Such a phenomenal film, it’s really a masterpiece!

  • I can’t help but to feel mesmerised by this movie. It takes you into it, like you’re living it and filling the shoes of every character in focus. The contrast between the beauty of nature against the brutality of survival and humanity, every minute detail that goes into the production, the stellar performance by the cast, the atmosphere, the pacing… You just can’t help but get sucked right into the story. It’s been 16 years, and still this movie takes the first place as my top favourite movie of all time.

  • I saw it in theater when it came out. Me and my friends went to the cinema and this one was the only movie that had a few tickets left. We had no knowledge of the movie beforehand. We sat in the front row looking up at this gigantic screen from very close and you couldn’t see anything else. It was a stunning and immersive experience. On of the best cinema-experienced ever.

  • Apocalypto is a masterpiece of film making. Brilliantly done, amazing cast and support actors. I am puzzled why few talk about it now in the early 21st Century. Gibson seems like an amazing energetic manic director with crativity and vision few have ever possess. I rate this film in my list of the ten top eye-popping movies ever produced.

  • I can’t believe it took me so long to watch this masterpiece. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Rudy Youngblood (Jaguar Paw) was BRILLIANT. He held the screen so well. And major props to all the actors – they truly committed to their roles and this captivating storyline. Sheesh, what a movie. Well done, Mel.

  • One of the best movies I have ever seen. I was 7 months pregnant, when decided to watch this film. Such an emotional and captivating story, truly makes you feel in the story, travel back in time, right there. It is a good thing that I did not give birth in the cinema 🙂 P.S: she is 16 now 🙂 Mel Gibson is not only a telented actor, but a fantastic director as well.

  • Till this day I always thought Mel went to a community that actually existed like this with their culture kept untainted to shoot this movie. The movie felt so real and amazing to the extent that I was convinced some how that some of the scenes were shot at a real place. Everything they put in this movie is an absolute master piece of an art. Such dedication

  • i remember perusal this movie so many years ago on television late at night. I didn’t know shit about it, who made it, who are the actors, didn’t get the language and i think there were no subtitles. But i was so engulfed in the production, action and acting in this movie i didn’t move till it ended. Thats what great cinema is all about.

  • The first time I saw this film was back in college when I took a bus ride home where it was being played. I got so hooked with the scenes I didnt even realize it was time for me to get off the bus already. I was so desperate to finish the film but I had to go. I didn’t know the movie title that time and it haunted me for days, thinking about the movie ending. I had to research about it and finally had peace of mind after rewatching it. I must say… That was the BEST movie-experience in my life. Ever.

  • One of the best movie ever made. It’s like if we traveled and were in a kind of alien place and time, in Mayans time. This feeling… Its just incredible. They are a lot of movies thatI truly love and consider like masterpiece, and this one is clearly on of them, but it will always have a special place. This is pure art, dedication, this is great. Masterpiece.

  • Thank heavens for film-makers like Gibson who aren’t afraid to be bold and original, and be highly creative about it. I wish there were more movies like this for those of us who aren’t into comic book characters, space wars and zombies. Apocalypto is a stunning movie. If ancient Mayan culture didn’t look the way it does in the film, I’d be pretty surprised. Everybody involved certainly did their homework.

  • Mel Gibson along with the whole production team “revived” the spirit of those ancient times. I was and still am captivated to each scene. My fascination is how they maintained respecting history while combining it with the utilization of existing technology. Colossal masterpiece is what this is. All departments went all out. WOW.

  • NO AMOUNT OF BLACKMAIL CAN ANULL THE FACT THAT APOCALYPTO IS A NUMBER 1 MOVIE OF ALL TIME. ACTORS ARE JUST WALKING PIECES OF ART. Nollywood Elites YOU TRIED BLOCKING MEL GIBSON BUT THE MOVIE INDUSTRY WILL NEVER FORGET THIS, THIS MOVIE WON ITSELF A SPOT IN THE PHOTOGRAPHIC HALL OF FAME. I CRIED THE FIRST TIME I WATCHED THIS MOVIE. I WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AND NEVER GET TIRED. Thanks be to MEL

  • After I watched the film- when I heard that Mel directed this.. it honestly completely blew me away. For one because it’s somewhat rare for anyone, man or woman, to be not only a double threat but for them to come off as masterful in both fields. But also because this movie was so foreign to the image I had in my mind of Mel- the Mel we see in the tabloids. The Mel we see acting on the screen… then I started searching for and perusal his more candid interviews. The man is incredibly intelligent. There is a real almost palpable depth to him. Keep it up Mel, you’re an incredible person.

  • Film making is all about the details and the commitment to the nature of the subject. One is immersed into this world. We watch historical movies and just except what the director shoves at us. To actually feel like you were living in those periods is truly what an epic movie this is. I visited the Aztec ruins in the Yucatan and walking around and wondering what was life really like 500+ years ago….until I watched Mel’s masterpiece.

  • This movie was EXCELLENT!!!!!! The ending, it SHOCKED ME. I was so focused on the story that the ending was the last thing I was thinking about! Boy! Was I shocked. I know my history but I didn’t think for a second that was what we would end with! Brilliant! Mel Gibson is a genius! I recommend this film to everyone.

  • To this day I haven’t seen a more real feeling and historically accurate depiction in my life. This film was emotional, raw and at times barbaric and scary, I never felt so much emotion from a film and at the state of movies today I doubt we will see anything like this again. 40 mill budget? That’s amazing.

  • Having just turned 18 and on school holiday. I went to this movie place to watch football. I had instructions from Dad to get back home before 10PM to avoid his fury. After the game, I found out they were also screening a movie. I thought, “I got to stay for a few minutes.” I stayed. Then they put on Apocalypto, and the opening immediately drew my attention. The incredible jungle scenes added to my curiosity. Scene after scene followed without blinking. This was the best movie I have ever watched. I couldn’t think of the repercussions. It was the best time of my teenage life. I went home at 2 AM in the morning, and my Dad was waiting for me. I still remember the slaps and the boxing but also how wonderful Apocalypto was. It was totally worth the beating!!! Amidst the punches, Dad was throwing at me. I was triggered to fight back, and I returned fire. My Dad got really agitated, and it made the bad situation worse. I need to challenge him to a fight now that I got some muscle.

  • Brilliant work, bravo!!! While perusal a full immersion in the atmosphere of that time. A thousand emotions, from serenity to terrifying fear, from admiration to a sense of danger, surprise and natural disasters… Mel Gibson is a genius, it’s a pity that such a man was slowed down, the world missed a lot of his talent.

  • Gotta say it was one of the best films I’d ever seen and I’m 65 and seen a lot of films. This was so believably shocking. Like the Passion of Christ which made me cry. I’m glad I watched this though as it shows how much work goes into making such a movie. Mell Truly is a Master Craftsman. So A big 👍 for mell and of course everyone else who made the movie possible.

  • i’m really proud, though, too of all the Extras, all the work, everybody put in. If you think about it, there are SO SO many people we’ll never get to see, that were PARTICIPATING. but, obviously, don’t end up on camera. that scene of Mel jumping about and whooping and hollering during the village dance is totally surreal. again, i much much appreciate ALL the work on this film… such a masterpiece <3

  • I was scared as hell when they were at the ceremonial table and just after they executed one of the prisoners, the guy with the ceremonial mask turns to look at the main character like “you are next!”…I felt like he was looking at me and I felt so small and powerless, I forgot I was perusal a movie and became one of the prisoners! Excellent movie from Mel and all his team, Bravo!

  • When article Ez was out before anything came out online, kind of like BlockBuster was around the West. I was always thinking to get this movie to rent something about natives and how cool the jungle always was as a child fascinated me. A friend of my friend said it’s better to rent out ‘The Last King of Scotland’ I still wanted to watch Apocalypto and loved it so much have seen it several times since. I still did end up watch The Last King of Scotland and it was very good but this after knowing Mel directed it etc, made me fall in love with our past more as a people rather than political movie about dictators etc. I’ve had this thought with me ever since, that people have their own likes in films and some think the movie they like will be better than the one you say you want to watch, people are weird. 😌

  • I just watched this movie tonight and forgot how good it was, its absolutely insane to think that this movie is now 17 years old! This movie could have easily been made today and it would be oscar worthy, such a unique movie I’ve never seen or can compare anything quite like it, and the fact they were actually speaking Mayan too is such a nice detail, and the choices of actors were perfect it really makes you forgot they’re actors and makes you believe they are actually real Mayans from hundreds of years ago.

  • Wow i actually saw this movie back in 2006, and it was just blew my mind, the whole script being spoken in Mayan and the actions sequences the backdrops, locations it’s just amazing. I hope Mel would be interested in making another epic in Cambodia about the Angkor period. The Angkor king Jayavarman’s story deserved to be told on the big silver screen and it requires an amazing director like MG to do it. Hook me up if you are interested to do it I’ll connect you to the right people here in Cambodia. 🙏

  • you cannot say about this movie “they do not make movies like that anymore…”. They actually do not make movies like that at all… This movie was such an experience for me.., once in a lifetime. Yes it has its own flaws, especially historical inaccuracies, but its a movie, its a story, a really simple one, but good one. Amazing movie and its a must watch at least once. Mel is such a talent… For me he is on the same level as Tarantino, of course in his own way. Would love to see more movies made by him… But I really doubt it that todays film making is a good fit for his style, his ideas, his way of making movies. Still cannot wait for The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection and Lethal Weapon 5 🙂

  • What a great movie, this is a movie that i can watch so many times and never get tired of it,and the ending when the spaniards are coming on a boat,i felt so bad for “almost” he went through hell trying to survive now they’re going to go through hell again with the spaniards invading,i felt like they’re could of been a sequel with the spaniards invading

  • Realistically, a movie OVERFLOWING with historic innaccuracy and misrepresentation of culture. BUT at the same time an absolute TRIUMPH of story telling, cinematography, and using true indigenous descended actors and authentic language. Which cancels out the gaping historical liberties taken. Still one of my favorite films ever.
