Initially, Dolph Lundgren was nearly denied the role of Ivan Drago, because the casting director thought he was “too tall”. This sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. Dolph’s peak height was 6’4.5″. He looked like a giant standing near the 5’9″ Stallone in Rocky 4, and the 5’9″ JCVD in Universal Soldier.
Once a couple of burglars tried to rob Dolph Lundgren’s house. He wasn’t home but they tied up his wife and we’re searching the house for loot when they saw pictures of Dolph and Dolph and his wife. Im swedish. I grew up with a guy that looked VERY close to Dolph. He was even naturally very lean and beafy, even from like super young age he had a sixpack. This guy was a very promising athlete too. Girls loved him. And had it all going for him really. But he got involved with wrong people, and drugs, quit school in mid teens. He worked in Vancouver in the 80s for filming companies, he brought me to a place near pigeon Park in Vancouver, the area was closed off, I saw a guy get thrown through a window of a bar, then a white haired guy walked out, he was huge. After that, another huge guy came out and he looked familiar, my cousin walked over and gave the guy a hug and brought him over to where I was drinking some juice. Third party, I had a close friend who worked for Stallone for close to a year and said he was one of the most self important, rude people he ever had to deal with. Sly is confusing the publicity re Lundgrens height with the reality. I have met Lundgren and he is now a little over 6ft. That means his peak height was never near 6ft 5 – you don’t shrink that much at 60- but probably 6ft 2 and exaggerated to make Stallone look taller than his 5ft 7.5 stature. But they both looked great in Rocky IV and I believed it until I met him and he is now the same height as Carl Weathers who I also met. Weathers remains formidable looking unlike Lundgren who is no longer in Ivan Drago shape.

Well, Sly showed his true colors years ago when he made fun of Steven Seagal for being the bigger man. Simple story. Sly was throwing a big Hollywood party in his mansion. I knew a guy that would scare dolph lundgren he was so big and badassed. This man was around 7 ft. Tall he was like a hermit who owned alot of land and nice cattle. I dont know who Stalone thinks he is but its seems like he felt threatened by other actors with the same build as his. He hated Arnold, Dolf. He needs to tone it down and stop acting like a doosh and like hes better than everyone around him. He needs be more like Rocky. Hes getting older and as he gets older we are seeing less of him and people are looking forward to that more and more if he keeps acting like doosh. Im a huge Rocky Balboa fan, dont ruin that for me.
Dolph nearly killed Stallone’s dumb ass too. Sly told him to really lay into him during filming of Rocky IV. Dolph’s a for real martial artist, towers over him and probably is nearly twice the weight at that time. He literally almost killed Rocky cuz Sly was so deluded by Hollywood he thought he could fight for real. What a goon.
Sly hasn’t lost his charm, his “it” factor. Listening to him here, it’s EXACTLY like listening to Rocky speaking to Adrianne in that empty hockey stadium, while she was ice skating and he was jogging trying to make her feel comfortable. This guy is special. Thank you for existing, Sly. You are pure magic and you have a good heart full of talent, innocence and passion.
Sylvester Stallone was my idol growing up and still is. He is the reason I startled eating healthy and working out. When I broke my back in a car accident the Dr said if I wasn’t so built I would have been paralyzed. So thank you Mr Stallone for not only being my idol but being the reason for me walking today.
Your father is a real gentleman. I’m sure he doesn’t remember me, but I was at a mall in Thousand Oaks Ca in the 1980’s, and he was starting to drive his truck out of the parking lot,but saw me exiting the mall. And he waved to me to go ahead and cross even though he was already driving in the driveway. That made me feel special and important, that a huge star like him, waited for me to cross before driving any farther. I will never forget it. Plus I have always been a big fan of him and his films.
Watching Rocky as a kid, Sly inspired me to get through a rough childhood life constantly being abused by my mom’s boyfriend. In my teen years more so inspired avoiding drug’s hitting the gym coming out a confident man. I’m going to be 53 this June and he’s still inspiring me big time. Mahalo and Aloha Sly🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m only 34, and had a stroke. I’m working out almost every day, and his story, and Rocky, are a big part of of my motivation. The entire story, and everyone in it. Not to mention art has played a huge part in my therapy, and helping get any emotions out. He’s a great role model, and dad. Never give up!

There are no words or quick ways to Summarize or Condense is impact as an actor. A total movie icon. Inspirational in every way. He definitely influenced and impacted my life. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly are my two Idols and hands down can say I loved both of them for decades. Two different people that came from nothing and change the world. They both overcame all odds. They both deserve the success that they have had because of their perseverance and drive. And really quite humble and self Depreciating. I cried perusal this. As someone who has loved Stallone’s movies since I was like 8, I really love to see that he grew up to be even more successful, by seeing what you two are doing. That is very sweet. And I didn’t even know you two. But it is sweet to see your love and friendship together. Also your dad is in my heart because of his relentlessness to succeed. As someone who is still fighting to be successful, I love to see him and love his stories. Specially the one Tony Robins tells, of him reading to get out of the cold. Maybe he can tell it one day? This was fantastic! You young ladies are so blessed to have the parents that you do. My father was a good provider and he tried, but he never did things with me. He was a dentist who is 92 yrs. old now and he lives next door to us in a duplex which means we only have 2 doorways between us so that we can be right there but we all still have our own privacy. My point was, back in those days a dentist didn’t make as much and my Dad refused to raise his prices which infuriated my mother but she stayed home and cared for my oldest sister, me and my twin sister, and then my late in life unexpected little brother who became her buddy and went everywhere with her. I was the black sheep and no matter what I do to this day, I get no true respect from my family except my twin. She understands me, and my wife who I was infatuated with since high school. We went on a couple of dates in high school and one in our 20s but we didn’t actually have a real relationship until our early 30s and got married at 35. I had some growing up to do before she would have anything to do with me for long anyway. I’m a carpenter and my wife thinks I’m the best! I apologize for the short book. I think your Father is a great one and I wish I had one like him. My Father-in-law was a very cool guy; he took me fishing and we did a lot of things with him like going to the races and car shows. We had a lot of cook-outs and they were great times. He had it rough like your Dad did. Nobody taught him to be a man and he had to learn the hard way which took him a lot of years and even some jail time, but he did it.
This man has saved my life in so many different ways and knowing his story has helped me to be a better person than I would ever be able to imagine as a young man and now a father myself, looking back at my own life today, I can see alot of similar things that I have literally seen the same way as Mr. Stallone, I just want to thank you for your time and the soul and light that you have spread out in this world, I wish we could have more old souls like that in this world today. I didn’t have a mom and dad as I was orphaned and rocky became like my big brother, I watched him 1,000 times in the movie and how he was a loving dad and husband and I felt like it was really him. Now I see his daughters how much he did a great job with his beautiful wife. Love you Rocky / Sly ❤️ you were there for me and you didn’t even know it
First time viewer… great job ladies! Your “youth” stories of training in the morning with your Dad coaching you shot-put reminds me of the first 20 seconds to a 1992 song release by the band Extreme from their “3 Sides to Every Story” opening song (titled: “Warheads”) where a drill sergeant intensely barks out orders only to hear in reply his young daughter meekly say, “Yes, Daddy…… yes, daddy.” OK, gratitude first… “I am soooo grateful to/for your father.” In the 1970’s. I was the fattest kind in the elementary school. At one point a kid came up, pinched my belly, and said, “Pinch an inch, damn, I can pinch a mile.” That was a low day. Then my grandma (a faithful Catholic who reminds me of an older Adrian, btw) took me to go see “Rocky.” From then on, I started exercising and learning about nutrition… and eventually lost the fat and went on to winning open racquetball tournaments when I became a satellite antenna engineer in Los Angeles for Hughes Aircraft across from LAX in 1992-5… again thanks in part to your Dad’s lessons in “sports psyching.” Thank you… and thank him so much for a motivation to change and become so much more… …including becoming a writer and eventual author. When I was a child, and my father was still alive, it was a ritual to watch this man’s movies. Pop corn, soda and rented VHS tapes for hours. Seeing it today brings such beautiful moments to my mind since I am part of something very beautiful for me. And I appreciate that, and I really enjoy tulsa king because I have a new excuse to bring my father to my mind.

As someone that was raised by a single parent, I never really missed having a dad due to never having one around in the first place. Yet perusal this episode is probably the first time I actually felt as though I actually missed out on something. This family clearly have a great relationship and this episode was a great listen, Much love and respect to the Stallone’s.
Rocky has always and will always be one of the most influential people in my life. I learned how to feel about life perusal Rocky! Thank you I love you so so much! My children was raised with examples from Rocky. I come from a two parent home and was surrounded by amazing friends, family and coaches. However, I simply resonated with Rocky because he was always the underdog in and out of the ring.
Being from this era of Mr. Stallone being an icon, I must say I am speechless. When I saw the movie Oscar, I knew Mr. Stallone was a balanced actor. Now, I know he is a solid human being. He worked his way up, believed in himself, succeeded, failed, and now sits before his daughters wide open. So much honesty. So much respect for this guy! On the top five bucket list now. Gotta meet him and hang out for awhile.
You wanna know something funny- when Sylvester looked off camera and said he’s got the most shy wife in the world, I LITERALLY pictured Adrienne from Rocky 1/2 (as if that was actually his real-life woman). Talk about how much a movie about a fictional character can imprint us on a subconscious level into making us believe or at least see the person AS THAT CHARACTER almost forever! 😊
He’s just a legend. I actually think Cop Land is his best performance (off the wall, I know), Rambo First Blood and Rocky are of course seminal films of their genres. Had the hard route, and it shows in his longevity and work ethic. And also shows in his daughters who are well adjusted, really pleasant, funny and smart and seem to have really good values .. which is rare in Hollywood kids. Kudos to Sly and their mom. Legend.
Had a Shitty childhood, then in 1982 the movie Rambo came out and I watched the movie 500 times. I watched the movie 3 times a day and had the movie memorized word for word. It got me through a very bad time in my life and then I got a Step Dad that was a Ranger in Vietnam. Long story short at 18 I joined the army and retired after 25 years!! Thank you Rambo!!! Thank you Sly, I was retired at 45 because of your story!!! You are my Hero, both he and my step dad.
As a bilingual special education Teacher of 20 years and 5 in the emotional disturbed behavior program classroom, his success story moves & inspires me. I think he was right. He was misunderstood. He looked beyond. He is a deep thinker. He thinks outside the box. I think he had a lot of energy that just needed to be websiteed in the right direction. He just needed someone to believe in him, have patience & guide him.

Probably best spent hour on YouTube I ever did. I didn’t had much of a relationships with my parent and being a loner I choose movies to be my zone of comfort. Sly is amazing! His daughters are beautiful and seem so well grounded. As the father of a beautiful and amazing young lady myself, I can totally relate to their close relationship. I have been perusal Sly ever since I first saw “Rocky” (and the sequels) as a kid. Whenever I feel down or need inspiration, I watch “Rocky” or listen to “”Eye Of The Tiger.” I don’t think anyone should look at celebrities as “heroes,” but more of an inspiration source from the positive individuals. After hearing about the negatives Sly has been through in life, and seeing how he turned them into positves, I now have even more respect for the man. 👍

Sly has been present my whole life, he has been at the top for 40 years but is still under appreciated, he is one of the few in the movie business who’s priority is to entertain his audience, he give the people what they want in a fantastic fashion and his only competition in life is now himself! What a character! Not selling the Rocky script for $300k and having the only condition of making the script work is him being the protagonist – when he had to sell his dog. And 50 years later, Rocky is the longest-lasting series that everyone knows and still continues with Creed. What a legacy! Overall, a great human being who pushes the limits – Sly is Rocky!

I love sly. My childhood hero. I was raised on loony tunes, rocky, and Rambo. This is the first time I’ve seen him speak as his raw self and he didn’t disappoint. After listening to Sly’s life story (thanks Sly for being so open about it and your daughters guided the interview with you masterfully) his most famous Rocky quote comes to mind: “You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” Sly was talking from the heart in that scene !!!!
Sylvester Stallone has shaped my life in his movies I didn’t have parents or anybody to guide me in life so I took my cues from movies I looked at the actions in the reactions that they’ve given by the way they acted thank you Sylvester for always being a decent human. His daughter are so funny and are strong minded and love they are outspoken, them being sing is mind blowing
This man is an absolute legend. Some of the best memories of my life were perusal his movies with my father when I was younger. IMO movie stars aren’t nearly as polarizing as they used to be. You can watch a movie now and forget it in a week.. Rocky, Rambo, All those movies stay with you forever. Never forget them. Firmly believe that perusal Rambo with my dad was a major contributor to me joining the military. It’s nice to see him outside of the flicks and as a human. I wanted to mention too, that I’m happy to hear him say that Rocky is not a sports film. While I love sports, Rocky to me was always about morals and steadfast determination. Getting up over and over again after being kicked in the teeth. That’s what made the story moving. Being the underdog helped to further that message but it was the message itself that made that movie what it was. At least to me. Thanks for this and great job with the Podcast. Also.. I can relate a lot to what he says about when he was younger. Took me getting into the Army to straighten out.
Just watched this. I haven’t seen Mr. Stallone in this more real light. So down to Earth, traditional, teaching his daughters values from a young age. Protective as he should be. I love listening to stories about how the most gentle giants like to have fun intimidating daughters’ boyfriends but mean it in the most loving way. While they may have thought of themselves as tomboys, they are such mature, strong ladies now.

I will admit that I watched because I’m fan of your father but it was great to see two normal, well adjusted, likable young women having a good time. I have been a fan of your dad for years. He has always seemed like a Great Guy. It sounds like he was a Great Dad, also. I’m 29 been perusal this guy since I was very young! Rambo was like the coolest shit I’d ever seen. Used to go in woods pretending to be him 🤣.. He’s been like a father figure mainly due to him reminding me so much of my own dad. But didn’t see him much so I’d put a Stallone film on n there he was 😂. What a legend may he live another 20-30 years

I’m not in the Hollywood scene or even close, but I wouldn’t expect daughters of such a major decades long successful star to be so down to earth and grounded. Sylvester and Jennifer, you have both done a fantastic job on raising daughters. A big congrats.
I have 3 daughters – this was fun perusal. About him relating so long to your mom: there’s two big choices when you relate to someone. Either you choose your kin or you choose fascination. We chose fascination. It’s easy, she’s always incredibly smart and I’m always incredibly stupid or crazy or whatever. And I feel blessed she gives me a say in the education of the kids.
Wow, this was amazing. I haven’t laughed at any podcast this much for a long time. And I have a newfound appreciation for Sly. He is funny, and kind, and much more of a person that I even knew of, and that’s on me. I need to say tho, that Stop or my Mum will shoot and Oscar had a far larger and more essential affect on my life than Rocky ever did. And as such he really should considered jumping back to comedy. He is sincerely funny. My father has a day off is not even a bad idea for their first family comedy, and he could really grow into that unhinged but awkward little bit self-degrading comedic character that he already has in his arsenal tuck away. Omg listening to him talk about all this was damn near therapeutic. I’m learning animation while learning how to write short stories and I’ll be playing with my daughter and be going crazy in my head not being able to sit and write down x, y, or z. And I’ll get really irritable when I get home from work, finally have a minute to sit down and organize an idea and then everyone comes home and I have to go into dad mode. I was doing well with one beer or no beer before, but the more I get into a story and can’t write, the more I tend to drink. I thought I was going crazy and being a bad dad. Well, I am, but it’s not just me. Omfg what a relief, now I can take steps to deal with it. Thank you!
This was awesome! I have watched your Dad since I saw Rocky in the theater as well as most of his other movies. And I gotta say this was the best celebrity interview I’ve ever seen. Thank you. Hearing Sly is into the writing of Edgar Allen Poe tickled me. I’m portraying Poe in a one man show. It’s my first one hander and I’m overwhelmed at times. My husband used to bring me home movies with Sly in them and announce “I got your man!”Every time. He died in 2009. When I see you I remember that. I hope you see this. Because you really gave me a good memory of him. With a whole stack of blockbuster movies he’d make my weekends off really great. Because he did that Everytime.

The questions on Sly’s childhood was so interesting, just like his daughters said, only they could get away with some of these questions. Dad engages his daughters at his level, adores them, and his wife. So it should be. My wife is the best blessing I don’t deserve. And every day until I’m toes up is funny and more beautiful because of her. Waiting until the age of 45 years old to get married is very important to living the best life (IMO).

This was adorable, loved it! With my dates my father would set up his gun cleaning station right in the center of the garage, where he also created his own bullets. He would be melting down the metal, look up, no smile, huge vein in the middle of his forehead, as he poured the molten metal into the bullet mold. He was a gun collector, had no less than 15 guns at any given time. His favorite was the black powder rifle. I often did not get a second date! When I was in my late 20s, I knew my husband was the one when my father took him to the computer – my husband is a computer programmer – and there they sat for hours! 😁 Our dad’s know how precious we are. They are there to make sure the man interested enough is aware of that. If they’re not, dad’s there to teach him that. And, honestly, if dad does have to teach him, he’s already the wrong guy – and dad already knows that. BTW, I have two sons, they’re now 22 and 17 – I’m the one who would say “shake hands like a man!” Because there’s nothing worse than shaking hands with a dead fish. Your handshake, your eye contact, your demeanor say very much about you – your dad’s right! You do not want a lame person to be your partner in life. You want an equal. Great job, mom & dad – you’ve done well! 💗
