After suffering from severely dry skin and dermatitis on my hands, i came across beef tallow cream i tried a small amount on my hands and my hands where soft moisturised, non itchy and absolutely glowing. Even after washing my hands throughout the day my skin was still moisturised, no irritation or dryness i will take this cream over steroid creams any day!
There is so many vitamins in nutrients in beef tallow. The proof is in the pudding as they say. I am 45 and have spent most of my life reacting to almost every moisturizer that there is I get hives I get break out until beef tallow. Also it makes my skin so soft it repels water so when you wash your hands all the time they don’t get dried out. I have tried some of the most expensive moisturizers I try to use clean ingredients and beef tallow is the best thing that’s happened to me. I will never use anything else. I also look amazing, in fact people stop and ask me what I use on my skin. My massage therapist said I have some of the prettiest skin she seen. I also use the ren ready steady Glow as my exfoliant. I also quit using anything with silicones in it years ago and that stopped me from getting clogged pores and breakouts. I use minerals as my foundation. Doctors don’t like when we quit taking their advice and take our health into our own hands. They also believe whatever’s been taught to them by Big pharma. I don’t need clinical testing or whatever to know that something works amazing on me doesn’t burn my skin. There’s a reason it’s so popular. I also use the Tallow soap. I never get dry itchy skin anymore.
I would love to point out that she keeps repeating that there is no/minimal research to suggest that pure tallow is beneficial to the health/(preservation of our skin. I use beef tallow on my extremely dry and cracked skin. Mainly my knuckles in the winter and on dry nostrils during/after a cold. Also, on cracked skin on my heals in the summer. I’ve also used it on my son’s eczema. It’s the only thing that provides him relief, and it even heals the rash quicker than other eczema specific products. I make my own tallow as we raise our own beef cattle. I’m not sure about smearing it all over my face, but I’ve never noticed any acne when I’ve applied it to my back or chest in the super dry winter months. 🤷♀️

I appreciate this article. The only thing that made me raise an eyebrow is the idea that coconut oil and tallow will basically do the same thing. Of course, not all oils are equally skin-friendly. I have extremely sensitive skin and rosacea and I had to render my own tallow for ages. I’m SO excited it’s becoming a trend because now I have options. I haven’t bought any yet but I’m about to. The main concerns I have are what producers are adding to the tallow- essential oils and other oils, waxes etc. I saw one with squalane which is interesting to me! I totally get why tallow is repulsing to many. I do use a brand of tallow that is refined and whipped, and it does have frankincense essential oil added to it (which is not overpowering and I tolerate just fine). Whatever the claims may be, I have skin that gets very dry and the product I use is one of the most affordable overnight creams I’ve found that continually works for me. That said, of course I use other skincare products including a prescription retinol! And sunscreen every damn day! The other really thick moisturizing cream that I have used that is vegan and works much like tallow is the Jones Road Miracle Cream. However I do find the whipped tallow goes on easier. It does really work as an emollient. I don’t often recommend it because of the gross factor, but at 55 with aging, dry skin it works really well for me. Tallow is fantastic I use one made from a farm in Minnesota. They make it specifically for skin care an it’s all natural with no harmful additives. I also use a tallow soap an I can honestly say no it’s not a gimmick it’s been around an has been used a long time. So give it a try. I make y own skincare but I do buy it. I put it in the refrigerator but I have a bottle out an it’s fine
I think this highlights that the main reason for many skin issues stems from a damaged skin barrier, I’ve experienced this myself once i focused on healing my skin barrier all of my skin problems faded. Especially in recent days as there had been soo much hype over products with active ingredients, that were not being used properly. It seems liie this is some sort of counter effect. I think as long as there has been no scientific evidence to prove it’s harmful go for it and see for yourself if it works or not.

I don’t use tallow for this but I have only used oil on my for cleansing – for years. The only time I put soap on my face is if it’s actually dirty with something that I need soap to remove. I like tallow for dry skin because it’s only one ingredient and it works. Chemicals and mile-long ingredient lists make me nervous. That’s part of why I like this website so much – you give great info on skin care ingredients and which ones to avoid along with which ones are effective. You’ve helped me find my favorite sunscreen lol.
I’ve never used it on my face and I don’t think I would because I have hormone acne prone skin. I’ve noticed heavy products cause break outs even though my skin looks really nice before the break out. Lol! But I have gotten it from a local wagyu farmer who uses it in lotions, chapstick, and soaps. It’s really nice as those things.
I have used tallow since before the tiktok craze. It works really well. The trick is to get tallow that has been rendered in a waterbath so it has no smell. Good makers do use preservatives. I hate when good products go viral because the price increases 10x the original. I tried the coconut oil when it was viral, but it made my skin break out horribly in big painful cysts.
I use a tallow moisturizer in the winter time on top of my usual aveeno moisturizer. The one I use is called Fat Marshmallow from the brand Vellum Street. I don’t use it on my face though, it’s a bit too heavy for that. It’s scented with vanilla beans and smells so so good. I’m fragrance sensitive and my skin tolerates it really well.
Comments from a doctor who recommends Vaseline 😆gives everyone a break and then lets us know that you can’t stand the smell of beef. I have tallow for the face with frankincense oil and it is wonderful. Frankincense has been used for over 4,000 year and and people have been using tallow on their skin for hundreds of years…she doesn’t know what she is talking about.
I stopped taking bc early this year and was having really bad break outs due to hormonal changes. I switched to tallow a few months after and I’m still having hormonal breakouts but the severity has reduced significantly. My skin always felt so dry and achy. Regardless of what I was using. This is the only thing that has seemingly repaired the moisture to my skin, my face looks healthy and hydrated, minimal redness, and no more flakiness!!
I’ve been using whipped beef tallow for over two months now. I still use toners, cleansers and serums and sun screen. Adding tallow has helped so much with getting rid of my dark circles and fine lines! My skin is super oily so I use half a pea size and my skin has cleared up and isn’t producing so much oil!
I use Emu Oil like that, which I guess is basically the same thing except from a different animal. Emu oil will disinfect and heal whole wounds in like 3 days, it’s crazy! And I’m 38 but zero wrinkles and people think I’m 24… also, I know a few indigenous people that use “bear grease” the same way. So yes, it’s a thousands year remedy, the pharmaceuticals dream to achieve such greatness 😅 (I also sell luxury clinical skincare, but i use emu oil on myself lol)
Lol I do remember people going nuts for the coconut oil about 6 or 7 years ago. I actually use grass fed tallow…idk about anti aging or anything like that, but it’s helped with my eczema flare ups and seems to have toned down a little redness I was experiencing on my cheeks. I get an unscented kind off of toups&organics. I’ve been using it for about 3 or 4 years now and seems to work for me, but I know everyone’s different.
I had very dry lips…and i got fair results with Laneige lip stuff for several years. Then i went on a tour of the Amish country in Ohio and discovered tallow. For the last two years I’ve used it on my lips, and also my dry elbows, knees and feet! I now get it (unscented) from a top seller on Etsy. I don’t think i will ever use it on my face…but it sure works beautifully wherever i use it now!
Your answer to “Is it different than any other sort of natural emollient?” was “No.” That’s not true though. An accurate response is, “We don’t know.” Personally, I know it is not the same as any other natural emollient because ‘any other natural emollient’ would also have softened my skin to this extent, demolished cystic acne, and minimized my hyperpigmentation. Research institutions not being funded to validate natural product abilities gives folks perfect ammo to deny their benefits with parroted umbrella statement about lack of research. I’ve done everything under the sun struggling with acne over the last year, and not even tret touched it. My acne started flattening OVERNIGHT when I switched to using beef tallow, and in just a week I’m finally acne free after months. I can’t believe it. For some of us, the cheap natural products like beef tallow are game changing skincare products, and it’s frustrating they’re denied because something, something science. So? Why would I not use a product proven amazing through tons of anecdotal evidence and personal experience just because it hasn’t been profitable enough to be studied? Maybe science should focus on studying some of these natural products consumers are using more instead of yelling about things not being studied to invalidate them.
I’ve heard of beef tallow due to social media. I was looking for a moisturizer that also works as a sunscreen/sun-blocker and one small company claimed to make it like that. I thought I was discovering nuclear physics until word got out on social media. Then I discovered Korean sunscreen and I haven’t been a fan of beef tallow since then :glasses-purple-yellow-diamond:
I just made mine yesterday, it didn’t smell like beef to me even when I was melting it, it smelled really good and sweet, even too sweet. But definitely very strong smell and it kind of stayed in my nose for few hours. Today I diluted it with olive oil, and with this grassy smell it’s kind of better and better consistency, more smooth and soft. My skin so far didn’t dislike it. Though I wouldn’t go out with it on my face, it definitely feels greasy. I’d pat it with paper towel to feel more comfortable. It’s probably really cool as a face mask. Or instead of body butter. I’d say it’s definitely safe for body. For majority of people without skin issues. And! It’s the only thing that didn’t make my lips even drier but nourished them! As a lip balm 10/10!
I just ordered some! I love using olive oil, castor oil and coconut oil. As a teen I noticed my siblings and friends using Proactive and tons of makeup and it didn’t help their skin AT ALL. So I avoided most skin products and 20 years later (I’m 32) my skin looks better then my peers. I get that “natural” isn’t always better BUT neither are drug store products. I have gone through phases of using d-store normal stuff, fancy stuff too, nothing did my skin as my ch good as using oils… But everyone is different!
I use tallow. I just started. I can’t remember where I heard about it, but I don’t have tik tok or instagram. Either way, I can say that it feels amazing. Like no other oil I’ve used. It is more luxurious feeling than most body butters. The one I have is whipped so it is on the softer side. The only smell I detect is kind of nutty, or milk like. It also doesn’t look super shiny on like other liquid oils. The other thing is, when I use liquid oils or even cocounut oil, I feel like they just sit on my skin, this gives me the feeling that it absorbs like a lotion
I have rosacea and my daughter have severe oily skin and cystic acne, beef tallow have been great for both of us, my daugther’s skin have changed dramaticaly for good, no more cystic acne, and for me it moisturizes all day under makeup. Cocunut oil did make my skin oily and then dried after a few hours. It is a shame that dermatologists prescribe expensive solutions that do not work to treat skin conditions when there are natural inexpensive solutions available with no side effects. I find beef tallow very pleasant and soft on skin, no odors at all. Medicine has turned in my opinion in a contentious business parade.
I use tallow for my face, hands and a little bit in my hair and it’s amazing. I bought it grass feed organic in the store and I made it myself (whipped) with a little bit of coconut oil. I put it in the fridge so it’s fresh. 🌿 of course you are trying to influence people probably to buy pharmaceutics moisturizers etc but remember a lot of them are full of paraben and phthalates plus hormonal disruptors so no thank you. People do your research EWG has also good clean ingredients products for your skin without all those dirty chemicals.
I have extremely dry hands especially with obsessive washing…I have used all sorts of products including coconut oil too…I have got the tallow w/o any additives…yes, it has funky smell but the benefit I see outdoes the smell. It instantly moisturizes (soaks in) I used many products that feels like it’s moisturizing but as soon as I wash hands…my hands become rough again but not with the tallow…its amazing …I even tried on face on and off…I only use little bit before I go to bed…it doesn’t make my face greezy
I just started using tallow 3 days ago . It’s a big difference how my face it’s glowing and more moisturizer than ever, but I keep using my retinol, vitamin c all my actives and sunscreen after I using tallow as my moisturizer My makeup looks great But everyone it’s different It’s a little sticky but I believe it’s worth it
I have extremely dry type skin and have been using tallow for a while. it’s pretty amazing, gives me a moisturized glow. I think anyone with sensitive dry skin should consider it. I’m not a fan of the scent though, does smell a bit hamburger-y lol. If tallow has been used by people for so long, why is there such limited research on it?
There needs to be research done, but obviously these large companies are not going to fund them because it doesn’t benefit them. I have extremely sensitive skin & can’t handle fragrances. I LOVE it. My skin feels wonderful & soft & I don’t get severe acne when I use it. Minimal products like this are best for me.
People have been using Tallow on their skin for centuries and I’ll tell you one thing women’s skin looked better 100 years ago than it does today, years ago you didn’t see the kind of acne psoriasis, rosacea etc you see today, unless they were too embarrassed of how they looked so they stayed in the house I don’t know😘
I am 53, I had a total hysterectomy in 2020 and I’m in menopause hell!!!! I have actually aged well, I have no wrinkles on my face and smooth skin but for the last year I feel like I’m drying up from the inside out…. I bought some tallow but it has a slight French fry smell to it…. I read that it is normal to smell a little so I added some vanilla soap making oil and now i smell like a fresh baked cookie…. Is there a brand or a way to get it smell better but not overwhelming????? I don’t want to smell like a hamburger or a cookie… 😂
Hmm – she certainly has an inherent bias here. She tries real hard at first to stay objective, but ultimately succumbs. Tallow is extremely shelf stable. She keeps saying it could go rancid (sure ….after a YEAR). Pure tallow does NOT keep a beef odor. Sure you can use a fragrance to make it smell like daisies but not needed. It actually is rather odorless (unless of course you are using tallow extracted from grandma’s pot roast). And quite frankly even then, a simple clarifying cleans the odor up). Tallow like any otherwise pharmaceutically derived nutrient compound simply provides a vehicle for absorption, and its free of preservatives which is actually GOOD not bad as she implies, also contains loads of collagen and if you extract it yourself, is absolutely free (which I think naturally creates a negative bias for people that are used to “Prescribing” remedies to people. Use, don’t use it, up to the individual. If you are the type that feels that brands and logos matter and unless they pay for something it doesn’t work, no problem – whip out your wallet and stock up on alternatives.
Honestly from the first time I used it I saw a difference I can’t explain it you could even see the difference in my skin I’m going to actually make it myself after looking at the articles it can’t be that hard and it doesn’t go rancid right away it takes a long time for that to go rancid I understand about the essential oils because everyone has a sensitivity well some people have sensitivity however I do believe by putting like a little bit of olive oil and castor oil argon oil into the mix you can actually diminish the smell and there are ways that you can process it that it doesn’t have that beef odor as well or extremely minimized so anyway from the very first use for my purchase of it that I purchased from someone else I saw a huge difference in my skin and I do not think I would ever stop using it at this point when you see such a difference in a product after one use kind of makes you wander and honestly a lot of the skin care companies with their high prices in and all of that I’ve used every product line on the market and I’ve never seen such a difference ever from a ride to strive Acton to all of them I’ve used every every skin care product on the market just about and not one of them have stood up to the claims that they say that they do not one so I am at the point to where I use castor oil on my face argon oil on my face Rosehip oil on my face and now I just added in Tallow and I have to say I’m noticing a big difference taking away all of the high dollar skin care products that I put on my face that absolutely did nothing neither one of them stood up to the claims that they make so that’s where I’m at with that I do believe more natural products are better for our skin
Tallow is amazing skin care. This article seems to be personal opion and not really professional opinion. Lots of assumptions in this one. I had horrible rosacea and tallow helped alot. Its been around in soap nd lotions for along time for a reason. I make my own whipped tallow and its doesnt smell beefy ever to me
I used tallow 15 years ago for about 6 months. Did it moisturize? Yes. BUT…I CANNOT tolerate my face smelling like steaks or hamburgers cooking on the grill! Tallow reeks! I love and eat beef quite often I just don’t want to smell like it! I feel the same way about petrolatum, I cannot tolerate smelling like motor oil at the lube garage. My skin and nose always has a negative reaction to it. So I switched over to 100% organic skin care and my skin looks and feels great! In the interim I’ve tried other products but have been disappointed.
I am easily duped by these “healthy” and “natural” alternatives because I think we can all agree that if there’s something out there to use that can work “better” for us then I am all for it. I started reading a bit about conjugated linoleic acid, and it seems that there are some papers that show it may be helpful in soothing and improving the appearance of the skin. I’m a bit confused about the difference between conjugated and non-conjugated linoleic acid, in particular what the different effects would be if applied topically. From what I understand, CLA is mostly in animal products and has been shown to have beneficial effects on the skin, but I also saw a study mentioning CLA from pomegranate seed extract. Is there a difference in effect between CLA and non-conjugated LA? Is there a commercially available source of CLA that is not from beef tallow? I also saw sites comparing the linoleic and oleic acid content of different oils. Oils used occasionally in my routine have tremendously helped when my skin is dry and flaking, so I’m curious about if there is more reasoning behind it than that it is simply an emollient and if it is worth pursuing. Hopefully this made sense! Sorry my comment got so long! Appreciate you!
Kachin Kachin big pharma doesn’t want you to use tallow! 100% grass fed tallow is Great as a moisturizer!!!! Would you rather use a moisturizer that is man made which are by the way 99.9% of the moisturizer in the stores. If it goes rancid you get a new jar lol duhhh! You make the choose, do your research! She promotes every year many many toxic man made products lol but is not sure about tallow 😂
I have tried tallow for my hands and it seems to be fine as moisturizer however it still leaves skin slightly greasy and I find the smell off putting. Don’t want to smell like an old musty leather bag (and yes it was from a fresh tub of tallow). So wouldn’t use it when I leave the house. I also wouldn’t put it on my face my pores would be screaming I get oily enough.
It’s the first time I’m hearing someone who uses tallow on their skin then follow that statement with saying you SHOULDN’T eat it. The only people I’ve previously heard advocating for this as a form of skin care were all into the carnivore diet and it’s almost as though meat and meat products have become like a fetish for them. I advocate for carnivorism for good health, but good luck keeping wrinkles away without the use of modern cosmetics, namely vitamin A. These people are just ignorant.

My eyes don’t close completely when I sleep. I only discovered it when I switched from daily wear contact lenses to the lenses you can wear overnight. My eyes were so dry and irritated and my ophthalmologist did a test to discover that my eyes don’t close completely when I blink either. I passed this phenomenon down to my daughter, who has just recently passed it down to her daughter. It’s only cute on a baby. 😊 So I’d love to say it’s just because we don’t want to miss anything going on. But in reality, it’s an anatomical issue that can cause more complicated eye issues. And it’s NOT cool or fun to have to deal with. 😢
My big brother (May he rest in peace) slept with his eyes open and growing up and sharing a bedroom on a farm in the early 1960’s we didn’t have night lights or air conditioning so sometimes on bright moonlit nights I would wake up and look across the room and see those glazed white eyeballs 👀 and it would always freak me out! He was an amazing brother and I miss him dearly. Prior to the internet I never heard of anyone else that had that condition.
My youngest daughter used to do this. I remember the first time I saw it, I’d gone into her room to check on her and she was lying there, eyes wide open, like a thousand yard stare. I waved my hand over her face and she didn’t move at all. I shouted my wife, thinking that she was dead or something, and she came into the room and said, “Oh, yeah, I saw her do that a few weeks ago.” I wish she’d told me, I nearly had a heart attack!
My younger daughter (still a child) actually sleeps with open or semi open eyes sometimes. Of course, we noticed it very early in her life and became aware there wasn’t any problem with that. 1:47 fun fact: in a recent family travel, she managed to sleep standing up in a subway trip at the end of a tiring day (lots of wlaking tours), by just leaning against me (also standing) a litlle. And eyes semi open this time. BTW, she’s not narcoleptic or something (was just exhausted).
I have been sleeping with my eyes open for all my life. My mum says my paternal grandma had the same thing. It scares people if they are around you for the first time when you are asleep. The black part of my eye still shows as if I am awake but somehow my brain doesn’t process the optical signals when asleep. It’s strange but I am not bothered by it – a bit like how snoring bothers others but not the snorer.

It’s called Lagophthalmos. My son has it. It’s not good for your eyes. You have to keep them well lubricated. If you don’t the cornea can get too dry and crack, and then you could end up with a very serious eye infection. She should be using hydrating eye drops every hour, lubricating eye gel when she takes a nap, and for nigh-time sleep she should be using a lubricating eye ointment.
I remember reading about a tattoo artist that fixed that for someone who had “too short” eyelids, so they wouldn’t close during night, and she had very dry eyes. Supposedly the tattoo artist “tattooed” her eyelids with a series of stripes without using ink, and that made the skin on the eyelids heal up slightly longer than before.
Since i was a kid i sleep with my eyes open ad that brings me problems like i have red eyes when i wake up and have baggy eyes all the time because of that. Also i sleepwalked until 3 years ago and did it quite often when i was young, now imagine a 7 year old kid walking in the house with white eyes and moving like a fugging zombie, so the next morning every single member of my family were afraid of me and had quite a lot of similar experiences i never get tired of hearing
Oh hey, I sleep like that too. My eyes partially roll back and sit half open. To better answer her questions, I can make out light pretty easily changing, but I can’t see anything like that. One of my childhood friends thought I was dead one time when he came to hang out and I had passed out. Added on top of the eye thing I always shoot awake, I don’t “gently” wake up. So I scared the shit out of him as well.
As a teen, i was asleep, and having a dream, but superimposed over everything going on in the dream was a static view of a couple of picture on the wall over my bed. I remember even trying to draw the attention of people in my dreams to the pictures. It turned out that while I was asleep, One of my eyes was open, and I was seeing my wall and dreaming at the same time. Very odd sensation.
My eyes don’t fully close when I sleep, and I do see my surroundings a little. Unfortunately I am a night owl, so when I was a student and didn’t have dark shades, I would put my pillow over my eyes when I slept during the day, or else I’d be having dreams about the things in my field of view. Not scary but also a bit weird.
oh my goodness finally someone who also sleeps with their eyes open!! Until now I have only known two people who do this and these are myself and a friend of mine. 😀 As you can see in the article, her pupils are behind the eyelids which is why her vision is impaired when she “closes” them. If nobody had told me, I wouldn’t know that I sleep with my eyes open. When I “close” my eyes everything is completely dark, but then they aren’t fully closed, but they feel fully closed. One can still see the white of my eyes. 😅 Oh dear how many people have I freaked out because of this 😂
0:45 This example of her sleeping with her eyes open is probable. Yet for me speaking from experience the eye (pupil) doesn’t move upward. It’s more like staring at an object the entire time your sleep. A secondary person that’s near by wouldn’t be able to tell if you’re sleeping or not because the eye is set on an object which makes the second person think your awoke yet just staring at whatever the object he may perceive your staring at. Now on the other note: the person who is sleeping with their eyes open is asleep yet in both worlds. Meaning, you get to see the real world in motion yet it moves in static motion for example “artist who makes cartoons on separate pages. Instead of the pages flipping fast the pages would be flipping slowly therefore the cartoon character would move slower. Yet the pages would flip from page 1 to 6. You as the person being asleep would only register the movement on page 1, 3, 6. Missing the real life movement in page 2, 4, and 5. Then the person wakes you up and you snap out of your sleep. It does however gives the same recovery of energy of being asleep with your eyes open. And it takes practice. When you get really good at sleeping you can put your mind into a trance whereas you can move people and weather in real time to give your dream a realistic approach.
I sleep with my eyes partially open too and the fact she said she thinks her eyelids are too small for her eyes I say that all the time 😂 it used to freak out my mum and if I stayed round a mates they always shit themselves in the morning or said they were having a conversation with me because they thought I was awake 😂
I suffer from night terrors, I’ve had them since I was a child. I’m so used to them at this point that when a doctor asked me about it I said “Oh, like 2-3 times a month.” and my wife said “No, it’s 2-3 times a WEEK!” I asked “Really?” She always says when remembering this “How has NO woman told you this before?” (the fact that I’ll be totally asleep and just screaming in my sleep) I reminded her it’s probably why I was single for so long.
One day, I was sleeping in class and woke up to my friends laughing and saying that I was sleeping with my eyes open, but I thought they were open because of the position I was. Some months later, I traveled with my parents and my boyfriend at the time went as well. Since we were young, we had never slept in the same place. He saw me sleeping and thought I was pretending to be asleep, even tried talking to me, and that was the first time I was told I sleep with my eyes a bit open as well 😅😅 I’ve been told it’s not a great look 🤣
I know of one other who had such a condition. Years ago while at university, I group of us attended a sports tournament and rented a mini-bus / van to transport the squad. One of the designated drivers for the nighttime journey back informed us he had a tendancy to sleep with his eyes open, so the front passenger’s job was to watch him closely as it even if it seemed like his eyes were on the road, there would always be a possiblility he’d be fast asleep. One of the most interesting, and stressful road trips ever. 🤣
I have had a past experience with a friend of Mine, I was young and Naive, and I had no Idea about this condition. I used to stay in a boys Dormitory back then I was in college, so one day, I went to see him for study group and found him sleeping with his eyes open, Now I didn’t know that he was sleeping so I sat down and started talking to him and when I got no response from him, I started to panic and thought something has happened to him. I went and called his roommate and anyone I could find who was nearby then he told me about it! He said yeah! he sleeps with his eyes open! It’s very normal (The roommate talking)! I had no words! and I was scared $hitless!! I thought that it was straight outta horror movie!! Then the guy woke up and told me about it as well. I was still in shock and scared, the look on my face told stories :D. It was an extraordinary experience! P.S. This was my first time going out of town or living on my own. Earlier I used to live with my parents.
I mean, Ian acutally had a scene in Lord of the Rings – The Return of the King that shows Gandalf sleeping with his eyes open. Pippin sees it when he snatches the Palantir and is a bit startled until he realises that Gandals the White is actually sleeping with his eyes open. So, I’m sure Ian know from that scene… oh, and all the character prep he did beforehand, I gues?!?!?!?
When I toured working as a lighting tech, I shared a hotel room with the sound engineer. We would sit up chatting then I would realise he had fallen asleep though he continued to stare at me. I would gently push his shoulder and lift his legs up, his eyes never closing. I never quite got used to waking up in the morning, going to have a shower then would return to see him lying there with his eyes open looking like a corpse with skin colour.
I’ve been told I sleep with my eyes open too. In fact one time my dad and I were on a tour bus with a bunch of our friends. One time during the trip both of us dozed off and one of them took a picture of it and showed us. Both my dad and I were sleeping with our eyes open. Freakiest thing I’ve ever seen. lol
I also have smaller eyelids for my eyeballs. I have to consciously apply a tiny force to shut my eyes fully, otherwise they are always partially opened when my eyelids are relaxed. I thought I was the only one with such a thing LOL. And the symptoms are same like hers: really dry eyes, and people freaking out seeing me sleep with open eyes
Realized I slept with my eyes open in high school. I was lying my head on my desk, and I didn’t know my classmate was talking to me. He got freaked out ‘cause I was just looking at him without responding, and what’s funny is I was half-conscious at the time and remembered him freaking out at me from above lol. So it really depends where the position of your eyeball is at or what state of consciousness you’re in. I get snippets of what’s happening around me sometimes.
It’s too funny to realize that none of them even seem to realize that she can turn her eyes in such a way that only the white is visible. I can’t do that! If I turn my eyes into a corner my eyelids will just refuse to cover the pupils. That’s the really amazing part to me, not that the eyelids are open but that she turns her eyes away. But they don’t even notice that part and just keep asking questions that presume she can see.
I do this too lmao, glad I’m not the only one. But basically, she’s right. Our eyes are too big for our eyelids, so when we shut them, it takes some effort and we aren’t relaxing. I remember as a kid I had to actively close my eyes fully shut when the teacher was playing a game with the students that required closing our eyes, it was annoying but if I didn’t do it some kids in my class would freak out and start crying 💀

I’ve met 2 people that sleep with their eyes half open, literally, like her, but I just never understood it, and I used to think they are actually just messing with me, so I tried an experiment to see if they are faking it or not, but by the surprised shouts and horror screams produced by a very well done experiment, it’s safe to say that they really were asleep all the time 😐
I used to sleep with my eyes open to as a child. Not sure if it was every single night I can’t remember but I do recall laying there and finding it difficult to close my eyes to go to sleep. My father told me once he recalled walking into my room and seeing me laying there asleep with my eyes open. 😳
Two of my kids were like this, like a very droopy eyes its not fully closed, you could literally saw the eyeballs but its not a daily occurrence at first i found it a bit funny because i thought they were faking it but as times went by there were actually sleeping peacefully and gradually it stopped..when i told my husband he words were its an indication of brilliance..
I sleep with my eyes open too. I have pretty thick eyelashes so my family have theorised that they prop my eyes open while I’m asleep. But who knows really. I didn’t know I was doing it for a long time which led to some confusing conversations at sleepovers growing up. I kept being accused of faking being asleep.
“One Day” is incredible. But—trigger warning—it doesn’t have a happy ending—even though 100% of the audience wants one. I think I may have felt as much pain as the characters did. It destroyed me. Maybe just skip the last two episodes and live forever in blissful ignorance. Because you, and they, deserve that, and you’re not missing ANYTHING by doing that. *Seriously*.
