Those Sacramento Kings teams from 2000-2004 were the teams I rooted for if it wasn’t my hometown Knicks. I modeled a lot of my early game after Mike Bibby. I don’t think he gets recognized enough for how good he was in his prime years. Teams would kill for a solid leader at the point like him in today’s NBA.

I am from Vancouver and those two along with Big Country that you already made a article about were our “Big 3”. Abdur-Rahim made 1 all star team but looking at his stats, I truly believe had he been on some better teams that he would have been much bigger than he was.
Bibby was primarily a spot-up shooter. The Princeton style offense didn’t require a PG to drive and dish or play much pick and roll, so his assist numbers weren’t as high as they could have been (and Divac’s assist numbers were high because everybody passes the ball in this kind of scheme and he was a perfect center for it). Bibby’s remembered because he was insanely clutch.
Honestly he was basically what mike conley was during his prime years. A solid to sometimes star level point guard that just couldn’t make the list due to the over crowded talent at his position. The only difference is mike got a nod due to what I’d assume is pity because that year wasn’t his best in comparison to the past ones.
Forces beyond his control. He maximized his talent . Was a lunch pail pro . Others were quicker bigger stronger genetically . He didn’t stunt his own growth. I always mention Bibby when folks talk about how this new era is so great. Bibby would be a top guard today, and he never made the All Star team in his era. The guard position was just too deep for him to get the nod each year. He certainly didn’t have stunted growth, he had a very good career and is remembered like an All Star.
I think he wasn’t a All-star PG even at his best. He was more scoring guard on a good passing team. Most PGs in that ERA ran the show 8+ asst consistently..Bibby, was a jump shooting guard playing in a great system for his skill set while he was with the kings. He would be better in this era. He wasn’t ever really a traditional PG. Big shot taker/maker. His time with the Grizzlies, although they were a terrible team. His numbers weren’t crazy. Guy was a great player but like you said, he just played at a time when there were better guards taking attention. Reminds me a bit of Jermaine O’Neal. Jermaine was obvious the better and more decorated player but I think that he too is underrated due to playing at the same time as the best power forwards ever. Had his peak not lined up with Duncan, KG and Dirk’s peaks I think he’d get more credit.
Respectfully, I don’t think Mike Bibby came up short in his career at all. If anything he OVER-achieved. I’ve watched Mike Bibby going all the way back to his Arizona days. He was always a really good to very good point guard with HIGH capability of taking and making big shots when his team really needed it. On that 2002 Sacramento Kings team that SHOULD have won the championship that year (I’m sure we all know why they didn’t), even though Chris Webber was the best player on that team, Mike Bibby was THE GUY in last minute, crunch time situations. With that said, I don’t think he was ever quite a great, top tier point guard even at his best. He wasn’t Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Allen Iverson if you want to consider him a point guard. I wouldn’t have even taken him over Chauncey Billups. I think he got the most out of his ability and his career.

Unfortunately Mike Bibby was a shell of his former self by the time he made it to MSG to play with my beloved Knicks, averaging only 2.6 ppg in 2011-2012, but then again the Knicks are known for making terrible decisions in both the draft and FA in more recent years…….Amare Stoudamire, Eddie Curry, Joakim Noah, Jerome James, Jared Jeffries, and of course letting go of Jeremy Lin to appease Melo were all TERRIBLE for our team!!
i dont agree Gary Payton occupied a slot for Mike Bibby in any of the all star game payton played. in 2000, he was the best point guard, averaging 24.2 and 6 as.. in 2003, Gary’s numbers is down to 20.2, 6 ast, 3.8 rebs (averaging his mil and sea numbers) but it is still better than mike bibby’s number and impact. seattle has gary and sac has c-webb, peja, and defensive stalwarts like d. christie.
Bibby was good, but he wasn’t memorable. That’s the problem. He never stood out and he wasn’t flashy like other players. Personally, I don’t remember him doing anything that caught my attention. And if you’re not able to get the fans attention, don’t expect them to name you into an all-star game. It’s a damn shame, because he was good.
Mike Bibby replaced Jason Williams and Jason Williams was the man and couldn’t get them nowhere. Can’t even really say he hadda growth stunt .. just he ran into kobe and Duncan each time .. bibby had exceptional talent around him but after that scandal with the lakers you lose steam .. had to edit .. did the west lose with kobe and mcgrady at guard that year? Why is Chris Paul a shoe in the Hall of Fame ??? when he has never won a chip… I’m a Lakers fan and strongly believe that Bibbi has had a strong career just as good or even better than Chris. Bibbi made my Lakers fight every time they saw him in the playoffs. Made my Champion Lakers struggle to get passed The Kings. Paul was never even in the picture ??? Makes no sense to send Chris to the Hall of fame and not Bibbi. Just saying
I was a sophomore at u of A when Mike was a freshman. I’d see him at the rec center everyday. He was super nice. Super super nice. He would get doubled full court by wolves and never lose his handle and end up breaking the entire defense down for a 2 handed dunk off a spin move on the baseline in his McDonald’s all American shorts. Super super nice.
It looks like he has mostly low tops which I don’t like but those white 12s with the red bottoms are dope. I remember perusal him & Chris webber play against the Lakers in the playoffs in the early 2000s. When they. were with the Sacramento Kings. I was a Kobe Bryant fan. It was very exciting seeing them play against each other.
What I hated the most about the majority of his PE’s were many of the fire joints were low tops!!! 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ He had heat though. Them Jumpman Masterpieces are fire though!! That’s wild crazy.
