I live very close to this church. I have personally witnessed (by attending services here and there over the decades) the evolution of the downward spiral of this movement surrounding Rod and his congregation. I was there when the church was small and manageable(before they built the big one). I saw the annoiting firsthand, initially. The unfortunate part of this is that there is no doubt Rod had, (and still has for that matter) a calling upon him to preach the gospel.There is also no doubt that the Lord has given him wisdom on many things concerning the kingdom of God. Somehow, he was “headed off at the pass” by the prosperity gurus back in the eighties and nineties and that wisdom was subverted and perverted by the so called “faith movement”. He DID run well at the start, he did NOT initially “get into Christianity to make coin” He, like so many, got too big too fast. I’ve been subject to this before. I left that church. The pastor’s wife tried to convince that could sing. I knew that wasn’t my gift. I come from a family of singers and I’m the only one in the family that can’t sing. It never bothered me. I am good in a number of other things. So, it never bothered me. It’s funny you should be talking about this man because I work at a local Taco Bell and one of the employees from the Walmart near us came in to eat and asked me where did I go to church? I explained that I am a spiritual person and God has led me in that direction all my life. I am not a religious person. She said oh well you need to watch Rod Parsley on September 15th and said he was part of the church which is about 10 miles from us in South Bend Indiana that was run by Lester Summerall and then later his son which used to be called the world harvest church and now has a different name. The Holy Spirit back then many years ago told me that no matter what sweet words come out of Lester Summerall’s mouth was not from our Lord. I’ve never listened to parsley before, but as soon as she mentioned that I should watch it Holy Spirit said no you do not need to watch it. The Holy Spirit has been my guide in these matters for all of my life, and I will listen to the Holy Spirit before any other human on this earth.
About 30 years ago, I was in college and went to Rod Parsley’s church, World Harvest, with several friends. Phil Driscoll, a Christian musician, was playing at the church. After the concert, several of us were ushered into a room directly behind the church sanctuary. Several large men wearing suits locked us inside the room and bullied us to fill out pledge cards. They wanted our names, addresses, income levels, and “tithing” amounts that we would pledge. Initially, when we tried to leave, the men stood in front of the doors and blocked our exit. It was terrifying and we postured ourselves to fight before they let us leave the room. None of us ever went back. Rod Parsley, and now his daughter, have been preying on the impoverished Black and White population in east Columbus, Ohio ever since then. He is a criminal.

I was in NYC a few years ago and spent the weekend at NYSUM (NY School of Urban Ministry). Rod Parsley sent this team to Hunts Point in the Bronx and they made this short polished article, then left. While our group stayed and loved on the broken people, prostitutes and drug addicts. I discerned the shallowness of their efforts. Now I know what their motives were. I honestly think they don’t believe there is a God. They are so wrapped up in themselves and the money they take in that there is no way they believe they will be accountable for what they preach. I was raised in the spirit filled church and 9 out of ten sermons dealt with money. I got so sick of it I hated to go to church. I thought surely it’s about more than this. Then I went to a wonderful Presbyterian church and learned about God’s real love and forgiveness. How he really loves us and has given us a gift that no amount of money can buy. When the old ways do not work it is time to look up, humble yourself and repent of sins that only Jesus can point out to you. I used to go to Woodlands Church (The Woodlands,Texas) back when they were calling it Fellowship of the Woodlands and met in The Woodlands Highschool (Research Forest Dr). They originally said that it was going to cost $3M to put their first campus on 40 acres of land. The people who were buying the 40 acres nextdoor backed out and it was built on 80 acres. I saw a plan that brought it up to $27M for the project. It could’ve been higher. There was another church nearby that took $5M to build and that sounded wild. The last I heard in the late 90s/early 2000s was that it was costing $20k to run a Sunday service, which includes a professional choir, setting up the stage like it’s for a movie, special guests, etc. Once, there was a dirt mound where a professional motocross rider went up and flew over the pastor’s head to talk about faith. One day, during the adult Sunday service that was in the school cafeteria, they locked us in with men by the doors and told us that they didn’t approve of the total tithes. They passed the plates again as we were told they were not letting us out until they approved of the collection, which was what happened. The police should’ve been called and everything should’ve been shut down for good, but they’re still around and growing.
I remember when Mr Parsley was in Ohio and first started out. He was HUMBLE, and had the anointing of God. I now see him as Mr. Parsley, not pastor, for I feel the anointing has left him and he’s so far off the path he doesn’t even recognize it !!!!! What a dangerous place to be in. I did post a comment on here but I was immediately convicted to remove it and repost it with a small donation. I said originally that there is a lot of Entitlement in churches around the country, and my experience, I was told I was “too logical” and God does not like logical people. I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement and I eventually left that congregation. Since then I have paid close attention to the message that the church conveys and if it is not in alignment with God, I step away because I will not be punished and condemned for being complicit in false prophecy.

However… I have very, VERY intimate knowledge of how that place works, how they treat people (this article is just a small snippet of the terror they reign with daily), and the lengths they go to to intimidate and bully from the pulpit. Soon, those arenas will become homeless shelters, soup kitchens, GED classrooms, and trade schools for the poor. People are waking up from the slumbering years of prosperity gospel teachings. It beats me why so many poor or working poor, and middle-class folks have to fund the luxurious and glamorous lifestyle of teleevangelists and big-time shepherds. Here is what I take from this. People go to church to be feed the word if God. So respectively they should enturn should bring the offerings to the church they are being fed at. Many are not doing that anymore. Rod Parsley has a worldwide ministry not gust a local church. It take a lot if money to operate such a large ministry. They have full time staff that need to be paid. The Church is there job. Us wisdom in your giving. But give as you can afford to your church.
Almost all the false churches eventually say this same thing and say a curse will be issued if you’re not tithing/ giving enough. The worship leader said this same thing during a Bible study at Mike Murdock church in Fort Worth when I was there for a short time and they teach about a “faith promise” if you don’t have the money to sow you can make a faith promise to give when you have it and say God holds you accountable especially when they aren’t getting as much as they want them too. It’s the worse financial bondage. He runs with the Benny Hinn crowd and so does Mike Murdock, Brian carn etc and they all do the same. The greed in these ppl has no limits.
We have planted a home church and right now it is four people and our plan is for it to be an elder led church. I don’t believe that tithing is meant for the New Testament and wasn’t taught by Jesus or the apostles. If, God willing, our church expands then we will have a giving program to support the efforts of the church in whatever outreach that we decide on. We are to give as we are led and not under compulsion. Right now we treat it like the early churches where they had all things in common. We hold quarterly Bible prophecy seminars in which we all cover the expenses and if one of the brothers is in need, we are there to help and also bless others in need in the community. I also give to other ministries that have blessed me with their teachings. The tithe for the Jewish people also amounted to about 23% so short we be tithing the same amount? Should we be taking our tithes to the storehouse which was a part of the temple. The tithe was never money but it was crops and for sacrifice. It was also for the support of the priesthood because they had no inheritance in the land.
The “you left your dung” comment at the very beginning is one of the most offensive things I’ve ever heard from a usurper of the pulpit. Someone who would talk like that in church (and she doesn’t have any business speaking aloud at church anyway) I would not certainly want to be around the rest of the time and experience her coarseness.
This makes me furious and sad. I attend rod parsleys Bible college and even attained a AAS. I experienced things that greatly impacted my faith in a negative way. I felt used as a prop during his recordings and financially exploited. I left that college feeling confused and ashamed. Surprisingly many people left that school and ended up still on fire for God and doing great things in ministry.
Where will they go pastor? They have built this organization from scratch and have never had any other jobs. Getting a recommendation is out of the question. They feel trapped. It’s a cult. They’re so traumatized they can’t function outside of this cult. They’re paralyzed . We need to pray for these poor souls.
Im hearing them but also i strongly agree with the article creator here these 2 are way out of place. If nobody is giving money thats Gods will, this is Gods ministry. The church i go to had a sermon the other day about it pastor just said listen a tenth is all we ask for if you can do it but he also explained that everything is Gods and so we should try to give more but a tenth is all thats required. And nobody is going to make you or attack you if you don’t it’s all anonymous. I have found myself in the broke side of things of my own actions. I just ask people to pray for me and I have decided that I will pay what I owe and then I’m done giving my money away to selfish desires to loans for stupid things and what not, I don’t prosper because I make unwise decisions and thus I have nothing to give. And I know in the future I’m going to be storing up treasures in heaven I will try to give everything I got.
