How To Remove Excess Tattoo Ink From Fake Skin?

4.0 rating based on 66 ratings

The author is struggling to remove a stencil from a synthetic skin piece for a gallery show. They have tried various methods, including Vaseline, green soap, bleach, Lysol, isopropyl alcohol, hand sanitizer, and rubbing alcohol. To remove excess ink from fake skins, they recommend lubricating the skin with vaseline to create a barrier between the skin and ink. Applying a small amount of ink on the fake skin mimics the tattooing process, and wiping away the ink. Vaseline is recommended for this purpose, as some fake skins are more porous. To remove excess ink, squirt a bit of Vaseline on a blue shop towel and rub for a minute or two. This method helps to make the tattoos look neater and prevents the stencil from affecting the piece.

  • Thank you Brandon! This is really a super helpful article, I’ve been basically scrubbing the reelskin with a paper towel and it is getting chewed up, duh. For the stencil-I use speed stick after wiping a small amount of baby powder on the clean reel skin. Then I carefully press on a clean paper towel without smearing to get extra stencil and speed stick off.

  • Hey Brandon, Rome here from our group. Thank you for continuing to put out great content. Had 2 questions…on my fake skins, I having trouble removing that stencil bold lines at the end. I can still see stencil lines when light shading. I even tried bleach. Also, I tried to leave a review on FB. But I can find review tab on mobile device. I know, I’m a noob. I didn’t forget. Thanks again!
